Cable TV in Bracknell
#1
Am about to buy a house in Bracknell, but have been told by the solicitor that we are not allowed to have a TV ariel on the house and so have to subscribe to cable TV.
Does anyone know how much this will cost and do we get phone and internet with these deals, do we have to have the 70000000 channel deal or can we just get away with having the 5 normal ones for a cheap rate fee?
It is all just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive(Graham Norton voice)
Why do people have to buy and sell housing, can't we all have the same and move effortlessly between them at no extra cost to ourselves?

I live just up the road in Wokingham (where we are allowed aerials ), and heard a similar story. Apparently, no roof aerials were allowed in Bracknell, so there was an alternative (cable based?) system in place. NTL then took over the running and then forced people into taking (and paying for) their cable service.
That's what I remember from reading the paper a while back, anyway.
Good luck with the move!

I live in Bracknell, and you are not allowed to have aerials on the roofs of your house. However, NTL do indeed provide cable television, telephone lines, etc...
I think the basic package for the BBC1/2, ITV and CH4/5, along with a phone line is around £10 or so a month. You can also get a second telephone line installed for an additional £5 per month. Well worth doing if you intend to use the internet a lot.
However, as you will see when you drive around Bracknell, there are a vast number of us () that have got Sky Digital installed, and of course have the aerial on the back/front of the house.

Not allowed aerials on roofs in Bracknell!!!!
That is a load of pony.We have one on our roof so does the house over the road. All the houses were built with cable installed but nobody stopped us from putting it up.
I think it is NTL that control all the cable in Bracknell but you can just get the bog standard and phone line if you want.

This will be a restrictive covenant on your deeds if you buy a house in Forest Park, Crown Wood, the Warren or Martins Heron.
I used to live in Forest Park. I got NTL but dont touch their digital cable TV with a bargepole, IMHO its utter poo. Dont get me started on their customer service either.
I think when the estates were built the developers had to agree that they would supply cable TV and the council would insist on planning permission to fit a dish (and would never grant it). As Scott said theres plenty of dishes up though (my old neighbour had one !!)
Differences are with the new estates (Warfield Park, Quelm Park and Temple Park) where the restrictive covenants for things is only applicable when the house is less than 5 years old. That applies to things like bushes and trees in the gardens etc !!! There is a strange one on my house that says you have to always have curtains in the front windows !!! I think again you have to seek permission from the Council to fit satellite dishes but my new house had one when i moved in, and there are loads about.

So is there anything to stop me installing an ariel in the attic, that will pick up standard terestrial TV, or does Braknell not have any reception? I will be on Crown Wood, so am covered under the first instance. Not too worried about the internet access second phone line as I use it at work during the day for free. You may notice I am rarley on here after 5.00pm or before 9.00am.
Now I am in the area will have to all go out and have a beer or the like, and I can show off my completely unmodded Escort Diesel. And actually travel in a scooby for the first time!!!!! No I never have been in one ever, Have been in a legacy, and driven the old old subaru estate thing, that only ever appeared to be in silver, can't remember what it was, but my Ex's parents had one and it was the first car I ever drove after passing my test, I had to pick it up from the railway station, they left the keys hidden in the boot and the boot unlocked. (No really they Did) And I had to drive it on my own to there house up some really twisty country roads, about 7miles, it was great fun. Got in the car and turned the radio on, and tune on the radio was... "Baby you can drive my Car" it was so great..... (/> Misty eyed mode off.)
Sorry I digressed. Thank you for the help and I will hopefully meet some of you soon?

Nothing to stop you mate. I had an FM aerial in the loft as you only get 8 odd stations thru the FM cable aerial.
Reception is good as its quite high up in Crown Woog.
Will defo have to catch up at the next meet !! Scoobyjawa, Scott W, me, Scoobysnack and others all live close by.

Yeah come on Dave, when are you going to arrange the next Bracknell meet?
After all it's been a while since we had one, and Adrian et al are all back so it should be a good'un.

I had my aerial in the loft, pointing at Crystal Palace with a booster. My ITV Digital (as it now is) reception was pants so I got it moved outside. No-one has said anything to me about having the aerial outside and I'm certainly not the only one. The reception is now the dog's danglies :-)
