Default Athens under heavy snow.

Just thought I would mention it as there are topics about weather.
Apparently a football teams plane had to circle for 90 mins while they cleared the runway.

Just never think about somewhere like Athens being under snow.

Having looked at Weather Underground it is not unusual for Athens to experience sub zero temps at this time of year.

I live in Northern Japan and people I know are always surprised to hear that it is snow, snow and more snow during the winter. It is a popular concept, probably backed up by the fact that northern Japan is on the same latitude as central Spain, that it will be warm year round. Simply not so due to position in relation to major land masses.

Not suprised about Japan, in fact been looking at its growing popularity over the years as a boarding destination

Not sure why, but Athens just seems like a good temperature place all year round.
Temps drop below zero most nights in the Sahara, but it does not snow Low temps and snow are not the same thing

Thumbs up

Often snows heavily there, and in Turkey - I was stuck in Istanbul for 3 days once in the early 90's due to snow.

Very true but occasionally low temps and low pressure co-exist and snow is the result. Just come to Aomori and see for yourself as it's not so unusual here You are right about the boarding though.

Thats because not everywhere will warm up

Many places will see a change in weather patterns etc, without any increase in temps.

But i agree that snow in Athens seems nuts
