Ebay Question
I put a bid in for an item
I was outbid
I moved on and bought something else
The current winning bid has just been retracted and I am now the winning bidder [ends tonight]
Surely I can't be held as the winning bidder
Phil

Yup you can unfortuatly, its not over til the fat lady sings.
Possible that the seller has sniped your bid to see what the maximum was that you entered, then cancelled the highest bid, knowing what he can snipe YOU bid up to towards the end.
Just to make sense...
You bid 50 max, current bid is 25..... he snipes bidding 200, which reveals your highest bid.... then he cancels the bid, returning highest to 25....
Towards the end of the auction, knowing your highest bid, he gets someone to bid 48 quid knowing it will force your bid to its maximum....
Or it could be legit lol

Good idea that!
I think he might have to hurry. Isn't there some clause that you can't retract so many hours before auction end?

Too late to retract
Although I had already contacted the seller and he is aware I do not want it
He is really pissed off with the bidder because he has caused me to buy else where

That's a shame from what you were saying then i thought he'd be ok with it.
I'm sure if he puts you down as a non paying bidder he can re-list for free but is still able to give you positive feedback. Its quite weird!
