Smart repairs
Right, I've a guy outside doing a 'smart' repair.
I had someone bump my car (front bumper only) in a hotel car part. My leasing company has instructed a repairer to do the work.
The bumper has a small 10mm split which he has used 2 part adhesive to fix. Next a bit of filler and then he's going to paint it. I asked how far he's going along the bumper to blend it in and he says as little as possible and that he's "going to have to lacquer over the stone chips otherwise the whole bumper will need paining". Does that sound acceptable to you - to have the stone chips lacquered over?
Will it look okay afterwards?

yes hes only repairing the scrape/split, as for the chips well there there anyway, and like he says unless you want the whole bumper painted, you will find though the laquer wont be blown in too far so not many chips covered, not that it makes any difference chips are chips weather laquered or not

Didn't have a chance to look before he left as I had to go into town. It looks okay at the moment, yes you can see the chips and minor imperfections under the paint. luckly it's a company car so I'm not too concerned.
However is does answer the age old question: is a smart repair acceptable. If it were the Impreza I'd insist on a new bumper, the job done today isn't good enough!

in all fairness its only in places like that that can be a problem, smart repair is superb, save a fortune on bodyshop prices, if you have a small dent or a scrape for what they charge is good, ive been painting for years, i would never go mobile to repair a scrape on corner bumper for 50 quid

Some years ago I used a shovel to clear the bulk of the snow off the bonnet of my Subaru, forgetting about the bonnet scoop, so put a lovely scrape on it.
I had a smart repair and it came up really well. The lease company didn't notice when it went back anyway!
