It would be a good thing if they did. Not someone like obama though who isn't a Muslim in any case..

Because he's a great candidate, and represents a real change of direction.

What's his religion got to do with it?

Come on guys, its a serious question, we all know what the yanks are like, alot of them dont even feel its time to put a woman in either, doesnt make them sexist.

Personally think Hilary will win it anyway but Obama has a strong vote from blacks rather than how his religion will effect things.

Don't care what his religion is, his character, ability and honesty are far more important. Would not want the Clinton woman to win at any cost either!

He has a strong white vote too. In a few states he has polled 40% of the total white vote.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a joint ticket at the end of it.

Anyway, surely Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee would be the Scoobynet candidate of choice

Does it matter if he's male, black or a muslim? At the end of the day he's an American and that's enough to worry me!

Yeah I meant hes going to gain more votes from that section of society alone to counter those who will vote against him purely on religion. For a start half the yanks probably dont even know hes Muslim.

I have a feeling Hilary might win it to be honest, alot of Yanks like Bill and feel he didnt do the country any harm so I guess we'll just see.

Either way, god help us if a womans in charge of the strongest nation on the planet

Most blacks in the United States do not have the vote as they are firmly ensconced in a very real "Unter-Klass"

My money is on Clinton

What are the odds on Bill going down on Hillary in the oval room ??

You see, now this is what happens when you screen the early series of 24 enough times!!

I'm rooting for Hilary on the basis that I'd prefer some real bush in the whitehouse!

Les, I'm upset with you. Would you have written, "Would not want the Clinton man to win at any cost either!"

I can't see why McCain is so popular, he's so old. How can he be in touch with youth problems etc.

Agree with your first point but not your second; thats like saying Obama is so young how can he be in touch with Seniors problems.

Age like race, sex or religion should have nothing to do with it

I like McCain a lot (though I'd vote for Obama), I think he's a very diffferent kind of Repulican to Bush and the Neo-cons, infact he's taking a lot of stick from the right.

You saying he's not down with the hommies, Clare?

McCain is a war veteran; always goes down well with the yanks!

Being a Vietnam Vet is more important to the "lets kick ***" Americans than someone who actually understands the real issues the USA faces.

I'm all for Hilary getting the job. About time we had a woman in power in the US. there's been enough dick swinging over the past few years, and she did a fair job the last time

Virtually everyone in the states is a vet! Not knocking vets, but their aircrews get a medal for flying over N Ireland FFS.

Anyway I'm with Billy Connolly on this 1, everyone that wants to be a politician should be banned from being 1. Their all a bunch of lying b'ards.

Fair enough Clarebabes, should have put it better, its not because she is a woman and yes I would not want the "man" back in power either-just as strongly.

For Paul-I think they are both from the "incredibly tricky" mould and their background may well not stand up too well either. Rather like what we have just had and for that matter have still got, I would not trust them at all.

McCain is certainly better than Bush (and I don't mean Hillary, Ns04 ! ), being more moderate - a tad old though. I can recall the elderly Reagan appeared to be losing his marbles towards the end of his presidency (or was it the beginning ?!).

Don't have much of a problem with Hillary per se, but Obama is more chrismatic, which I think just about overcomes his lesser experience. He would surround himself with people that know what they are doing, like..erm GW Bush - ok, ok - bad example !

Anyway, I'd go for Obama, although I have a feeling that the auld 'Nam War Vet will be the next president.

That's all it is, a smear campaign by the Clinton team.

Can't believe anyone over here fell for it though!

They obviously need to lose another war in order to gain the next 30 years of presidential candidates... Oh yeah, they are doing that already aren't they?
