Will be in Sharm on Thursday. Where do you recommend visiting? Any tips?

We went to some reef out there and it was the highlight of the trip, it was absolutely fantastic. Sharm on it's own was a bit of a let down IMO, but everyone likes different things.
Btw, you *will* get the runs

The diving is great, especially at Ras Mohammed but the place itself is a dump full of tat shops and russians.

Yep, sounds about right and I think that's the reef we went snorkling on as well.Originally Posted by Daz34

Went to the Renaissance Golden View in Sharm for a week last year and spent most nights in Naama Bay ... hated the place, would never go back ... constant hassle the minute you step out of a taxi and they can be quite aggressive too. Not my idea of a holiday... although the quad biiking in the dessert and snorkelling were good.

Im going there, Ive got the trip booked for June.
I've seen good and bad comments about the place. But thats usual for where ever you go.
As long as its good weather and good food in the hotel, i wont be complaining.

I've got two weeks all inclusive so I'm not bothered about heading out for night life. A bit of sun will do me nicely. If I get chance to go snorkelling, i'll do that.

There is a place called the azkabash fish bar opposite naame bay taxi stop that is very good as is a restaurant caled the blue buddha right in the middle of town. For drinking the diving club near the centre is good. There is a very expensive Pacha there that is worth visiting on occasion but only early in the year when its full of hot russian girls. The go cart track is OK and the motor cross track is a laugh but desert quad riding is great fun. IF you ride a motor bike then you can hire a KTM and go into the desert. Hiring a car to travel around the sinai is good as well. There is a great mountain road from the centre to TABA and you can then drive along the coast back to sharm. IF you do a trip to cairo get the plane do not get the bus.
All the taxi drivers are theiving barstewards. Let the hotel arange the transport but haggle hard on the price.

NEVER UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES LET THEM LEAD YOU INTO A SHOP!
Be firm and respectful, if you want to buy souvenirs go to the old market and make sure you BARTER!
Agree a price before you jump in the taxi and ideally have the correct change
Tipping is very common, I got asked for a tip just for asking direction!
Quad bike and snorkelling is a must you'll absolutely love it!
Take a bag full of patience...you would need it for the RUSSIANS!!!
Also make sure you buy Visa from Sharm El Sheikh Airport.
Best of all try some sheesha, good fun!!!
Enjoy

Got to admit that the trashy russian women look great
dont go to the pyramids unless you are there for 2 weeks as you leave really early and get back late and the whole airport thing is chaos. The diving is good, I would not go as far to say its the best in the world!! Hrad rock cafe is good in naama bay as its cheap to eat and nice food

Looking forward to it now. Snorkelling, trashy Russian women (mail order?
) and 2 weeks of as much food and drink as I can squeeze down my neck. I've done a bit of diving before when I lived out in Tenerife, so I might see if I can find a PADI centre to refresh myself.
Not too worried about the shops, it's a lads holiday so the only shopping will be for liquid
I'll be taking my baby canon Ixus so will hopefully get some great pics. What type of mains power socket do they use? Three pin, two pin european style, something else? Hopefully the battery will last!

WHEN you get the runs, take the local cure ,small blue tablets ,explain what you've got! at the local chemist,as nothing you take with you will work, trust me as working out a holiday ,reliant on being 60 secondswithin a loo, is not pleasant

Blue pills!? I was conned! They gave me some mud like stuff that I had to disolve in water and drink Originally Posted by rallycol

Edit: to be fair, it worked a treat

The Diving in Sharm and the outlying areas is good, but busy, on a good boat with good Divemasters you'll have a top time.
Try these. Red Sea Diving Holiday Hotel, Oonas Dive Club, Sharm El Sheikh.
As for Sharks most common are White Tip Reef Sharks. Unless you look and/or smell like a fish you'll be fine, they're more frightened of you. Consider yourself honoured to be lucky enough to see these beautiful creatures.
Have a great trip.

If you want a cultural experience head to the black house at about 01300-0200 and see a russian night club in full effect. Be warned though that many of the blokes in there are probably Russian ex KGB and current mafia so do not mess with them.
