Although I was only young when the miner's strike took place that is the first thing that came to my mind. The way the Police were used as a private army to violently break up the picket lines was disgusting. These weren't people protesting over pay rises but trying to protect their livelihood. I know it isn't fair to draw a parallel with the Police force of today, but I'm sure a lot of people will be thinking the same.
