40% of bikes untaxed.....
So says teletext this morning.
No problem, just get ANPR out after 'em..................oh no, wait, they don't HAVE numberplates do they?
So that'll be alright then, just concentrate on the cars like always:mad;

Most of the people I know have their bikes in the garage 9 months of the year I wonder if they take that into account.

On the local radio this afternoon the police were saying they have no way of checking foreign databases so they have no way of following up speeding/traffic/parking offences.

Oh and i've been stopped more times on a motorbike by plod, many more in fact, than I have in a car. In my experience i've had a far harsher time from plod on my bike than I have in my car and if anything motorcyclists are an easy target for giving **** to.

most people SORN the bike over winter, no sense lining gordon's pockets when it is sat in the garage on a trickle charger now is there.
never had a bike without a numberplate either, funny that, and that insurance is kind of pricey also but hey, it's worth it every penny every time you overtake a bitter twisted "cage" driver.

If 40% of bikes are neither taxed nor declared SORN then why haven't the DVLA been issuing fixed penalties like they claim to do with cars. I suspect this is down to the muppets at whitehall not realising that a lot of bikers have their bike for weekend summer fun and not as a daily means of transport.

Since January first this year, the Europe wide agreement is in force. They can check ours, we can check theirs.
Since it'll be 99.9999% Europeans with cars, (I don't think even the Iraqis smuggle their cars in with themselves
), it SHOULD be possible.However, DVLC is MUCH easier, so why not target the easy option?

The DVLA figures are BS, as has been reported before. They say 40% of bikes are untaxed in total, not that they are on the road.
Most of the bikers I know dont use their bikes over autumn and winter, so tax it for 6 months for spring and summer and SORN it for the rest of the year. The DVLA took their data from wintertime, if they took it in the summer I bet the figure or actually untaxed bikes would be the same as cars.
As for numberplates ??? ANPR reads the back plate for nearly all vehicles as the vehicle passes them, or the police are driving behind it.

Anyway, your scenario requires police in a car etc, whereas we know they are all either at a desk doing paperwork, or sat behind a speed camera.

because they are on about the bikes parked in garages sorned!!!!

why is it that transport company's are replacing uk licensed drivers with one from poland ??????
you can't put points on a polish license!!!
the ones at my company drive well over there hours , through speed camera and don't stop for police !!!!
guess what they're licenses are as clean as a whistle!!
my advise get yourself a friendly pole and insure him on your car, any speeding tickets, send in his license
dvla will just brush the ticket under the carpet
i know another person who is resident in monaco, he parks on double yellows, over stays meters, caught on speed cameras, never gets a ticket

I rarely use it in the winter but still keep it taxed in case I get a problem with the car.
It is quite ridiculous that immigrants are allowed to get away with all those offences. What a useless bunch the authorities are. No thought of any protection for the general public from those who drive illegally and are uninsured.

They can and should be prosecuted. They can be fined and if they are in the EU, the debt may well be sold on to a debt collector in their Country of Origin. What can't happen, at the moment, is issue of points on your license.
