My flood - definitely my most depressing day so far!
This was my garden in the summer:
This was it today:
It's been a pretty scary day I can tell you My kitchen is flooded again but would've been a lot worse had we not had a sump with a pump in it in the floor.
Ah well, back to mopping up...

I knew I could rely on your sympathy
I rang the council this morning to ask for some sandbags, I told them that the water was just starting to come over my doorstep and into the kitchen. He said he'd put me down as urgent. I'm still waiting for them to arrive

£35 a ton for sand from builders yards, and some cloth bags or plastic ones.
Something better then nothing especially if there is more to come.

Eh? I thought you managed a narrowboat company? You're supposed to come on here and say "Great day today, local business is booming!"
I grew up with a stream 200ft away and that almost flooded our house on occasion; I wouldn't have touched yours with a... oh damn, tactless again

I don't see why people are making fun of Scoobychicks crisis. I mean, how can you joke when someones house is getting flooded?
How would you feel?
Shame one you all.

Sal, now I see the size of it, I'm not sure there is much that you personally can do (apart from convert the kitchen into an unimportant storage room). The flooding at our old house was eventually sorted by council work, like dredging/redesigning the river in other places so it didn't flood (so much/so badly). But that was in suburban London and would block a high street, if you're in the sticks and it only inconveniences a few then I suppose don't hold your breath for it

As long as its just the garden and the kitchen then things are bearable. Its if it gets any higher that there will be a real problem. At moment, assuming people can still get to your house, its just a damn good excuse for takeout
I hope it gets fixed soon, first pic looks like an amazing place to have parties. You just need to build some flood defences if at all possible

It's OK Fozzy, our sump pump dealt with most of the water in the kitchen, it's a godsend, if we hadn't have had it it would've been so much worse.
As it is now there's still some water coming up through the floor where the water table has risen but it's not too bad. At one point this morning there was water coming into the kitchen through the wall behind the radiator at the side of the house where it was flooded outside

Listen . . Stilover can pretend to be the good guy, but I am only wondering if Scoobychick will be sporting a bikini on her new beach, when DCI gets to participate in the white water rafting event!?

I can only guess how'd I'd feel, that's why I bought a house at the top of a hill. If we flood, the people at the bottom are 50' underwater!

Not much fun, hope the water levels drop soon. Any chance that the EA will deepen that stream bed I wonder?
BTW there are a couple of questions for you in DIY. d

MMMMmmmmmmmmmm, the thought of good takeout. I hope you have lots of choice near you.
Hopefully the worst has past, otherwise it will be takeout while playing with remote controlled boats in your kitchen

You poor thing.
I hope it doesn't take too long for the water level to drop.
Good luck in getting it cleaned up, have you got help at the ready?
As it's winter, you have time to get the garden pretty again.

Cheers y'all, I'm feeling a whole lotta love in this thread, thanks, it's appreciated
The water level is dropping now and has been for a few hours albeit slowly so we're past the worst.
Lumi, Bob actually has a remote control lifeboat in the kitchen. Fat lot of use that is, last time he tried it in a flood it got washed away down stream and we had to effect an emergency rescue of it at the bridge further down
