Default smoking ban - Golden Fleece Halifax

Landlord has just let BBC Look North film his pub flouting the smoking ban, the landlord was stood there on TV with a pint of carling and ***, telling the news crew he does not care if he's prosectued... more of a matter when now.

A friend of mine came back from a weekend in Blackpool not long ago, and she was saying there's a pub there which allows customers to smoke, but he charges a fee to cover his fines.

I can't see his charges coming close to the fines, but apparently the pub is always packed, so who knows.

The great thing about this ban is the fact that I can get home without smelling like an ashtray wherever I choose to go to have a drink.

Those landlords may find that their licenses are taken away..

.. not that having no license stops some trading either

Another alternative, would have to allowed the ban to be optional, so pubs with largely non-smoking customers, could put the ban into place, and those with mainly smokers could stay as they were.

Good luck to the bloke, shame many more pubs don't do the same.

But that would required the MPs to actually have some intelligence

The very same MPs who want to make us all fit and healthy and save the NHS billions? What I don't understand is how can reducing tax income from **** and alcohol and us all therefore living longer can save the gov't money

Even if we do all get fit and healthy we'll all die one day of something or other and with less tax to pay for it all.

Which will no doubt be offset by paying out pensions for longer.

I suspect that's why booze and **** usually go up by more than inflation each budget to compensate for those that give up or consume less.

Oh the government are rather good at finding new ways to tax you to ensure they keep getting their revenue one way or another.

Olly I'm on your side, perhaps I didn't show my sarcasm enough in the post I'm dead set against the nanny state we've become.

Theres 3 pubs in Hull that allow smoking and they make so much more money from having loads of customers that they split the cost of the fines between them
