Dug out their old album, 'It takes a nation of millions..' last night and blasted it(wifey and son away). Forgot what a fantastic album this was, a classic

Used to listen to PE when I was about 14/15.

Looking back it seems ironic that me and mates used to go around reciting lyrics with black activist, anti white supremacy overtones.

Fight the Power, yeaahhhh booyyeeeee

lol - yeah I used to think it was ironic when I went to Ice Cube gigs (Glasgow Barrowlands!!) and it was predominantly white ppl which is exactly who NWA and Ice Cube had a problem with! I used to wonder what he would say if I put that to him if I ever got the chance. He was happy to take our money tho

I saw them live at the Phoenix festival about 10 or 11 years ago..Along with Ice T they were the best act by a long way..I think that turned out to be there last ever live performance as they announced they were going to quit and then Flavor Flav had his bungie accident so it was the last performance but I am sure they have played plenty of times since,a good way of selling more records is to say you are quitting..
Fear of a black planet is one of the best albums so try and get hold of that...

I thought I was black for about 12 months, too. One of the lads at my (very middle class) grammar school actually converted to Islam!

Saw them there when they toured with Anthrax in the 'Bring the Noise' tour, never been so scared in my life.

I dug Fear of a Black Planet out from it's over-long hibernation in the loft the other day and gave it a tour of the garage turntable

Turns out not to be the ideal music to be playing whilst stripping an old motorbike with all those attendant rusty bolts down to to it's frame though

I have seen them live in Norwich twice at the UEA.

First time I was about sixteen, loads of younger kids in there too with some with alarm clocks roped round the neck in true Flavor Flav style!
Remember a few of my mates at the side near stage entrance, all band spoke, except Professor Griff who did not speak to anybody. Very unusual chracter who left the band soon after.

Saw them live again a couple of years ago, and all the audience were in their early thirties, a few old def jam hoodies dusted off, old adidas gazelles with fat laces, and a few new fans who had not really appreciated miuzi weighs a ton back in the day.

It takes a nation of millions is definitely in my top five hip hop albums of all time. True classic.

Deep, I too dug out that album a month or so ago. Still good beats, but not so sure about their lyrics
Ice-T, Big Daddy Kane, BDP.. I've got a few of these.
Went to see BDP and Queen Latifa in concert back in '90 at Birmingham Hummingbird. KRS-1 was a huge bloke!
Cool

Did anyone else here watch the film 'Fear of a Black Hat' back in the day? A fake/documentary satire thing about NWZ (****** with Hats)? IIRC there are some rather funny moments/characters in that like 'Tone Def', 'Ice Cold', 'Vanilla Sherbert', 'Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme' etc.

Those were the days...

I wish I'd seen them at Brixton Academy when they appeared with Run DMC and the Beastie Boys but missed it.

I also bought a re release of Mantronix by Mantronix from HMV for £6 last month. It has remixed versions of 'Bassline' and 'Ladies'. Fantastic!

"five-o" said, "freeze!" and I got numb
Can I tell 'em that I really never had a gun?
But it's the wax that the terminator x spun
Now they got me in a cell 'cause my records, they sell
'cause a brother like me said, "well...

What he can say to you, what you ought to do."
Follow for now, power of the people, say,
"make a miracle, d, pump the lyrical"
Black is back, all in, we're gonna win
Check it out, yeah y'all, here we go again

Saw Run DMC & the Beastie Boys at the Brixton Academy but no Public Enemy

Totally agree about Mantronix, i was in the video for Scream (very briefly) which was filmed at the Brixton Academy
