My current ones (pos phillips ones) are 3+ years old and getting a bit tatty. I think they cost about 20 quid. I am after some new ones. Whats the best make and model for the sub £100 market.

What are they for i.e. mp3 player, hifi, pc?

I dont think you can go wrong with Sennheiser. Had a pair for ages and they sound great on my hifi and I also use them for gaming on the PC and everything else Ive tried sounds pants.

I listen to a lot of music thats been recorded from DAB onto my PC, I dont get time to catch the shows due to work or time they are on so mainly via PC.

Oh, I used to listen in work so needed some smaller cans but now I dont have this problem so can be mid to full size cans. From what I read the Sen HD25-2 are the industry standard? They seem to come in at about 130 on e-bay etc, worth the extra???

Only two pairs i would receommend:
Sony MDR-7506.
I swear by these things- bomb proof, all parts can be replaced (comes with schematic+ part nos list), amazing sound quality, and comfortable.
Absolutely THE best I have heard, and used, and I have owned many pairs over the years as part of my work..
Downside is, they are not sold in europe officially- have to get them from the US (although there are some on amazon.co.uk and you can get them on ebay easily)
Around $100- which makes them a serious bargain.

or,
the Senn HD25 mk2 (make sure you dont get the mk1- very short non coiled cord which is rubbish). You will either love the senns or hate them- i hated them because they sat on top of my ears- found them very uncomfortable and didnt like how bass sounded on them.
Nowhere near as good as the sonys in terms of sound quality either.

yup second ++ for senheiser, used them in varying styles for music / gaming for 5+ years now

only negative to them, is there cordless ones are a bit loud for other users, (fully enclosed type) there open backed ones are fine

Agree with Freak, Sonys are sonically fab and built to last. Have had mine a few years now.....and they have been all round the world and UK VJ/DJing.

HD25-1-II arrived today, just had a quick listen and they seem to be worth the money, much better clarity than my old ones and they seem to have good bass too.. £80 all in.

Ultimate ears (that I have seen) are the in ear type ones, they are meant to be very good, but £200+ for the better ones.

Had a bit of a play with my new HD25s and they are spot on.

I have the super 5 fi pro iem's and they're fantastic for bringing detail out, custom moulds are £700 a pop.

Sennheiser or grado for regular phones.

Waiting for a pair of Sennheiser HD595's to arrive from Amazon to replace my old Sony's that I bought 8 years ago (things just dont last these days!!).

You can get the HD595's from Amazon or Play for £69.99 although they seem to be out of stock at the moment due to the bargain price!
