Over 100mph is instant ban.* Unless they don't do anything for over 6 months, there is some form of discrepency on the paperwork, worng time, place date etc. You might be lucky. If it ends up in court you could always try getting your boss to say you'll lose your job if you lose your license. Ask one of the legal guys who come on here.
*Also unless you're David Beckham escaping paparrzi photographers . Are You?

Over 100 mph is NOT an instant ban. The magistrate can actually impose a ban for 95mph +, but it is not a forgone conclusion.
A solicitor would be a waste of money IMHO as there is no defence, and it would only serve to make you look like a smarmy tw@t. Speeding is an absolute offence in 99.99% of cases.
Check the obvious things out. Were you cautioned? Did you get an HORT/7? Did you get a NIP? Did he perform his daily calibration checks of his equipment?
If so then plead guilty with a good letter from your boss stating how you will lose your job if you get a ban. The court does not want you burdening the state whilst you are on the dole! Also good if employer goes to court with you to emphasise the loss of job angle.
State that a higher fine would 'hurt' you more and therefore would be a more appropriate punishment.
The punishment will also depend on your previous driving record and current endorsements (if any).
Hope that helps.

Forgot to say....
Good Luck and remember to check your rear view mirror every 4-5 seconds - Those Volvo's are quick, and I should know. Nod, nod, wink, wink.

I am off to bed now mate, but if you want to fax me the other form (not the HORT/7) on 0113 389 0808 tomorrow, I will try to advise you further.
NIP's sometimes follow in the post. It varies by Force area.

If he gave you a verbal nip, then that would suffice.
The only other "real-life" occasions where the police DO NOT need to issue an NIP is after a road traffic accident, or if you were given a fixed penalty ticket at the time.

Unfortunately they do not have to give you any paperwork. If the rozzer has told you verbally of an intention to prosecute that is sufficient.
I know someone caught at 103 and he got 6 points and £400 which I thought was getting away with it. Your best bet is to take your medicine, show remorse and how uncharacteristic it was and how stupid you were and it will never happen again and they may look kindly on you.
You will however continue to worry until it all gets sorted...one way or the other. It will help if you have a clean luicence at the moment and have a previously good record.

If your unbelievably lucky like myself, you will never hear a dickie bird.
I got clocked doing 103.6mph on the M25 and the police had to come down off a bridge and they said they had the hammer down for 5 miles to catch me up.
The funny thing was when I saw the blues and twos I thought it was for someone else so I pulled in from the outside lane and started laughing with my firends about who was going to get nicked.
Gutted!!! It was me!!!
Anyway the funniest thing of all is that I was 4 up in a C-reg Cavalier 1.6.
I still look back on that day and laugh.
Good Luck with everything dizz.

dizz,
I'm afraid I have to disagree with TonyBooth.
If you are worried about a ban DO get a solicitor who specialises in motoring offences. I've heard the name Markis mentioned before on here.
I think the ABD have some sort of list of solictors. Have a look at their website.

100-120mph is an automatic ban (actually 30-50mph above the posted limit). However, you can plead that losing your licence will cause you undue hardship (such as losing your job) and they might not ban you. If not banned expect lots of points and a large fine. You can only use the undue hardship plea once in any 3 year period. Commit any offence liable for points in the following 3 years and you will be banned.[/b]

Dizz,
Here we go again. Last year I was caught doing 104mph on a dual carrigeway, (oops)
Anyway I got NO ban 6 points and £350 fine.!! pretty lucky I had my day in court with a solicitor that was familiar with the area.
not much fun and I was only in there 2 minutes ( the most expensive 2 minutes ever).
My advice is Definately get a solicitor that specialises in motoring offences they are cheap in comparision to getting banned.
The cost of the solicitors I called was between £35-95.
Generally though:- you must be informed within 14 days of the offence that they intend to prosecute (NIP) however since you were stopped that probably counts.
If you recieve and NIP you have 28 days to confirm the driver. Once you have confirmed it was you the Authorities have 6 month time limit in which to set a court date and proscute you.
Anything you can do to prove you need the car ie. you would lose your job etc.(letter from employer)will probably help you in court.
If you have any other questions or want more details etc mail me off line.
Also slow down and get a radar detector you might save the fine/ costs by using less petrol!!!!
Hope it gets sorted favourably

T16GER,
Er, not quite. If you go over 120 (51 or more than the posted limit) it is an absolute automatic ban - even if it means your wife and children starve and your 3000 employees lose their jobs and their children starve as well...

Dizz,
Sorry to hear about your plight. A year last dec 27th i got caught on the m62 coming back to leeds @ 104. I had only had the car 3 mths from new. So was well worried.
I said to him fair cop and all that and he was a pretty nice guy and asked me a few things about how many points (0) i had ,how long i had the car etc. He said that i had been unluck as he should have gone off at the last exit before he got me and must have been in a good mood as he gave me a fine and 3 pts (Phew!).
So i got the lucky one. And since then have sorted my head out and drive a little less quick
Cheers
Dan
