XBOX Live Subscription from Play

Sorry for being thick... But why can play.com etc offer XBOX Live Gold subcription for £34.99 and MS can only offer it for £39.99

Is there any difference between the two?

Bulk buy? but MS produce the thing, surley they should be the cheaper of the two?! Fooking MS do my head in sometimes
