Hi i'm looking at importing a brand new mitsubishi L200 from Thailand. Now i am aware that said import when it arrive's in Bristol will be subject to VAT at 17.5% and import duty of between 10% and 22% nobody has been able to give me a difinitive answer on how much it is.
Also if i use the car for 6 months or so and put a few 1000 km on it is it then deemed to be "secondhand" and subject to a lower rate of import duty ?

If you aren't already a resident of the UK, you can bring it in for nothing on a transfer of residency as long as you have owned it for over 6 months and it has some mileage on it.

I am a British citizen and Resident in the u.k so i guess bringing it in on a transfer of residency. My wife is a Thai national but has been resident here in the u.k for 6 year's
