Default Prodrive out of F1 for next year

F1 | Formula 1 - Prodrive rules out 2008 F1 entry - ITV Sport

Shame really, was looking forward to Prodrive competing in next years F1, sadly it now won't be the case

Not really such a bad thing as they were going to buy last years McLaren chassis on a customer basis. This would have made the team very quick, and could wipe out independant teams like Williams who develop their own car.

I'd like to see Prodrive on the grid, but with their own car.

It was Williams that put the spanner in the works for Dave Richards, causing him to bow out of next years F1

Maybe Williams should concentrate more on what their own team are doing and try and win some races instead of concentrating on what other teams are doing/trying to do

If Williams can't beat a year old package then no wonder they are worried

Agreed, if they fear a previous year's car then they should be the ones to bow out. It would be better for us all if they grew some ***** and fought it out on track, not in a boardroom

From what I understand on the subject.

Prodrive wanted to do a deal with McLaren, and use the 2007 McLaren chassis for 2008.

Not allowed under the current rules.

From 2009, this rule will be changed, so we may see Prodrive then.

Yes thats true DCR, but also from what i have read previously, im sure Bernie etc was still going to let them join and compete, unitl Williams complained that they might come lower down the grid than Prodrive

So Ferrari, Honda and Red Bull are allowed second teams (more or less) and McLaren aren't?

Who said the old black shirt was biased?

I am sorry to see that news. David Richards is a pretty capable team boss too. Williams are not the cleverest team at "man management" when it comes to their drivers and I think they would do better to concentrate on prducing a competitive car rather than spike the possible competition.

Well that's the whole point of the arguement. Prodrive would be a customer because it's not owned by McLaren.

Incorrect - Prodrive were to use 2008 spec McLaren cars and chassis - not 2007 spec. Thus there would have been potentially event stronger competition for people like Williams...

Personally I'd like to see Prodrive concentrate more on the rally cars because they have been woefully off the pace during this years WRC .

Prodrive is a massive engineering company - they have more than one division . They've been successfully competing in a number of different competitions and formats for years (as well as running a very successful road card development programme) - it just that we're most familiar with the rallying side of the business.
