Nasty. Seem to recall it was somewhere in the far east, a couple of years back.

Everyone on board died reports say ...... I cannot see why the Helicopter dropped? With the weight off you would have expected it to have raised instead of dropping!

It was South Korea a few years back - the Chinook was placing the sculpture thing on top of the bridge as you can see - crew error - the pilot dropped too far, the rotor clipped the sculpture and it all kinda went a bit wrong from there.

Thats scary stuff, once the blades caught ,the crew had no chance.

Heres another one which just looks as if the pilot didn't know what he was doing .

I guess it would be in bad taste to make a comparison with Colin?

In that Swedish one the tail seems to snap from the body of the copter before things start to go wrong.

Nice colour for a helicopter though.

That's cos he clips the lampost with the main rotor (if you watch the left of the 'copter) which spins the tail end into something I reckon.

IMHO that sort of thing shouldnt be available on You Tube etc - fatal accidents and the like. If they'd lived through it to tell their tale then fair enough but theres something very wrong about watching/broadcasting a video of someones last seconds

Not sure if people should not be allowed to see fatal accidents?? Why should people be protected from the real world?

I have seen people die in front of me, I have experienced some of the horrors of the world ......... it maketh the man.

Although the sentiments of that viewpoint are something I agree with, I would not have phrased it so harshly.

Anyway, was it fatal? It did look like there was a good chance for people to be able to get out of that.

i would tend to agree, but not everybody can handle it, infact i would say its a small minority that actually can.

Certainly wasn't meant to be harsh or a pop at NeilT ....... it's just that I don't agree that people should be wrapped in cotton wool by others who wish to dictate what they see/feel/experience.

On the contrary, I think you will find that most people cope amazingly well when placed in such situations.

It's the mind afterwards which needs the help .... but if you are strong it makes a wiser, more 'rounded' person of you.

No, I saw frogs as well...

Ground resonance - the reason why you now have to have a pilot in the cockpit when you run up the rotors, even ifyou're not intending to fly. The whole aircraft starts to vibrate in synch, and as you saw it will just thrash itself to pieces. The only way to stop it is to take off, pronto..

FWIW, I'm not happy about seeing snuff videos on YouTube either - I think it's poor taste to post a video where someone dies for the entertainment of the masses.

its not about protecting people from what happens in the real world, nasty stuff happens everyday and as humans we learn one way or another how to deal with that. However broadcasting the worst of that nasty sht for what ammounts to entertainment is what I have a problem with.

It looked as though he descended too far affter the load was landed on the tower, unless there was an engine problem. Awful sight and I am sorry for the occupants of the helicopter.

I didn't view it as entertainment, just a shocking piece of film used to expand my horizons of knowledge ..... I didn't laugh, smile or find it entertaining - I found it shocking and reflective.

To dictate that I should not be able to view it if I so wish I find more shocking than the material under question.

SB....Are you not an ex helicopter pilot? Im sure you'll know a helicopter can sit on the deck for hours with head turning without causing any unneccessary stress to the airframe. Ground runs/comp washes/leak checks etc (FPOG)

That military video was a test to show what resonant frequency vibration can do to an airframe, the results were to be expected where in the fact it ripped itself to shreds

Better vid from a different angle here..

Not a fan of Aircrash investigation, I see

Things like this are in a media everywhere we look; the one example that sticks in my mind is the man jumping from one of the Twin Towers before they collapsed.

It's not pleasent thinking/viewing, but it happens.

One could argue that they want the choice of viewing such images, and I agree stuff like this on you tube should have a warning. But when footage of people being killed is shown on Evening News, it kind of makes the need for view discretion warnings somewhat futile....you get more warnings about pending football results before a match is aired!!

On this website one has to be a bit careful what one says about choppers crashing for obvious and very recent reasons: but I freely admit I enjoy watching clips of disasters though it's quite good seeing a rather shakey pilot or driver stepping out afterwards when you think they probably shouldn't have survived "THAT"!
