Question I wonder what was going on?

On my way in this morning I was travelling slowly (heavy traffic) towards a roundabout singing along to whatever naff song was on the radio, I looked over to the roundabout and saw 9 Police vehicles all in convoy coming round the roundabout and heading along in the opposite direction to me, 6 riot vans (the ones with the cages over the windscreen), 1 back un-marked van, and two smaller vans, all had their blue lights flashing and were all travelling very close to each other

I have no idea what was going on, not heard of anything related to them on the radio etc.

At a guess I assume they were...

Doing some kind of timed exercise to the Airport or somewhere.

Actually going to a serious situation, yet un-reported.

It was the Do'nut shops opening time.

Or perhaps the safety camera squad heading to their different destinations desperate to save the lives of motorists doing a few mph over the limit.

Whatever it was it certainly is an unusual sight round here.

Just because something not reported on the radio, doesn't mean things aren't happening. Most police work won't be on the radio.

Not sure what you saw, but I've seem them moving a shipment of some sort on the M4. There was a very large convoy - and at every junction the motorcycles rode ahead in order to close slip roads joining the motorway. Guess it could have been weapons.

Some pensioner had clipped a young lad around the ear for swearing at her, spitting at her, and punching her.

The un-marked van was the victim support unit for the young lad.

It was actually taking a pensioner to court for refusing to pay her council tax.

I'll probably never know what it was about. Some interesting theories above though

Quite probably a Raid

A large convoy went past here the other week including several riot vans full of officers armed to the teeth

I think later or the following day it was reported on the local news a big raid had taken place

Me? No I'm not. On speaking to a few people today it seems there has been a lot of unusual Police activity in our district today (multiple police vehicles screaming about with blues and twos on etc) So I assume they were just on some exercise

I dropped in behind a high speed police convoy on the motorway a few years back - they weredoing very steady 80. After a few yards the policemen in the back seat of the Carlton raised his machine gun pointedly - oops, backed off a tad or 500 yards!

As my dear departed Grandad used to say whenever hearing a siren or seeing the blue lights lit "t'chip shop must've opened"
