Bootsy,
Been on it a while, currently in a strip joint listening to tunes.
Sipie,
You've got no payment on file so you're only playing at it!! I bet your avatar looks rank.
RB5_245,
Getting out of the welcome sim is the first thing you should do then explore and do whatever takes your fancy. Buy and sell almost anything, build for fun or money, the list is endless depending on your skills and imagination.

Too be honest, if you don't stick at it for at least a few days to a week then you could easily drop it as a bad idea. Once sorted though, it's simple.
Whatever there is to do in real life, you can pretty much do in SL only via an avatar. I know a few people who have made good money too, and continue to do so, therefore it's not necessarily a game for some.

Can't help but wonder why anybody would find this fun? If I wanted to be in a strip joint listening to tunes, I'd go to a strip joint where there were real women! What on earth can "virtual" birds do for anybody????

Just so happens that my wife's business partner has been making skins, hair etc for a while now (she's a web designer / graphic designer and she's taken a real interest in getting us all to look good)
I haven't made as much effort as Heather and Ruth, who admittedly do look amazing....but then, they also spend ages going shopping and trying out outfits etc
Only really set up SixString Strom for Open Mics / Music side of things, and really must get round to making more of an effort towards that....
Not much guitar playing and singing going on though as I've just had 4 impacted wisdom taken out in my First life this week so just trying to get over that...
Huge potential on 2nd Life though

Largely tongue in cheek coming from me as the women aren't the interest but I earn money while I'm there instead of spending it.

In this game do you have to pay real money for virtual items? If so, I don't get that. I'd much rather play a game where real money is not brought into the virtual environment (although that is hard to find).

Ahhh......
Sounds a bit like a game called Project Entropia. In that game real currency is directly linked into in game currency. Its sort of a hack and slash MMORPG. The developers allow cash to flow into the game by allowing a few mundane tasks. They take money (their profit) from the game by charging for ammo. There is no fee to play the game.
I played for a fair few months and actually made a couple of hundred pounds trading. Was fun, but I could not see a real future playing the game though
