Red face New Type of eBay Scam Discovered - Be Aware

I have just seen a new (to me) type of scam listing where the scammer
manages to list an item but disables all hyperlinks within the advert
including the ones to e-mail him, check his feedback and even return
to My eBay. If you try to cut and paste the item number most of your
screen turns blue!. One photo features an e-mail address and a BIN
price way below market value. I have reported this by telephone to eBay.

Item # 110191140843

Be careful out there

If we're looking at the same item... a caravan - then there's nothing unusual about it for me apart from the fact that he's stuck the buy it now price on the photo?

Nope, can't click on anything. Except the nice X in the top right to close the page

Interesting... 'select all' and you can see there's a big, transparent image covering most of the ad, which is why you can't click on anything. (I'm running Ubuntu Linux / Firefox, YMMV).

Looks more like a bug than anything malicious, though.

Well spotted. If you select all and then use Adblock in Firefox to block the image, then you can select and click on things on the page.

Very strange.

I am actually quite concerned at the comments of those who cannot see it is a scam.

The 'only' way one could contact the seller is via the e-mail address on one of the photographs. This is suspicious.

The Buy it Now price is only given on the photograph and this is 50% lower than the market value of the item offered.

The seller has only ever used his account as a buyer.

When you put it all together it can't be anything other than a scam

Strange though..
When you go to his user ID in community, click a few links like view items, when you go back to the listing, they show as visited links.

Anyone not savvy would, seeing the absolute bargain, emial him direct thinking something was wrong with the page.

Believe it or not there are many caravan forums and the ebay scams have been discussed at great length.

So I've been told.

Its a bug in eBay that has started to happen in the last couple of days. Its happened to various other ads, and happens in various ways. On my other machine using Firefox I cannot even login to ebay.

Hopefully they will get it fixed. After all, if they don't get it fixed, how will you be able to get the caravan in order to destroy it in some malicious manner. You ARE planning to destroy it right?

Even if he did set it up so that no one can bid.. its hardly a scam.. he just wants private sales. Using ebay as like an advert!

If you asks for your money and your bank details before you see it, then you can worry.

I still fail to see how this is a scam, I mean a caravan is not something you would post

even with just an email address, you email them arrange to view, then if it floats your boat pay it and drive it away, if payment is requested first then dont reply simple as

Hardly see it being a scam tbh

If you e-mailed there would be no opportunity to view - Just a request for payment / bank details.

As I said you could not buy the caravan for that price anywhere.

Then you deserve to get scammed if you buy something of that worth without actually going to look at it first..

Default fleabey

there are lots of rip off merchants on ebay, i've been ripped off severely once £2850, item listed for a friend. another time the item was not as described/damaged, emailed the seller oh! i didn't see it when i packaged it! if you buy something of ebay more often than not you are subject to sold as seen rule. there is little you can do to retrieve your hard earned. go and see the item before bidding. only when you see something you can put your own value to it.
