Question Why No Barricades? Fuel Hits £1 Per Litre!

http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/ne...s-1.3368204.jp

Where are the barricades of a few years back? Have we become desensitised to it and see it as acceptable?

sorry that made me laugh, you must be in one of the last places in the country to reach the £1+ mark

It has been over £1 per litre here for quite some time now, at the Shell station I always use V Power is now 107.9 per litre

They did tell us another 2p hike in fuel duty was coming, but yet you sound really surprised your fuel has gone up

The goverment trained loads of Army troops to drive tankers if it happened again. They also changed the law so that if you got in the way of one, you'll get nicked (IIRC).

Yes, but they're still b4stards.

And if you're going to put high octane fuel in, then it's your choice. Most petrol cars will run on 95.

in large quite true but how many people on here with performance cars are gonna run 95 ron ?? yes maybe if you would if you drive a 1.6 or 2.0 sport but if I had a UK2000 (which was mapped for UK fuel by Subaruin the factory) I would still be running high octane stuff

Been 99p/litre 95ron UL or diesel for a while with us. Will be 101p now with the 2p hike.

Clare - get your shopping at Asda, they are doing 5p off a litre vouchers if you're not fussy about what you put in.

Inflation I guess, the last fuel blockade was in 2000 or something and £1 went a lot further then.

Anyone spot the stealth tax increases? Chancellor promised several years ago that fuel duty would only rise in line with inflation.

As it was a sensitive topic a couple of years back, the duty increases were frozen for a few years to allow us to think we had got somewhere. However, there were working out what those increases should have been, and are now applying above inflation rises to duty to bring us back in line with where the prices should have been had they not frozen the duty over the last couple of years.

Amazingly good spin, say you are freezing duty, while all the time just saving up the price increases to arrive in a couple of big lumps later.

Yes, I may have to. I would have thought with Buncefield going up, cheap fuel in Hemel would have been a thing of the past

I wonder if people will start complaining when road tax for gas guzzlers goes up to 500/year or will we just lie down and accept it as we always seem to do

And again I ask where the Tories or any other party you care to mentiuon have stated that as a policy they will reduce the price of petrol by removing some of the tax increases imposed by this government.

P.S. I already know the answer, they haven't and they won't so why will voting the current government out and a new one in have any effect on fuel prices.

Don't get me wrong I am not supporting the current lot, but just not blindly thinking that voting them out will solve the issues. If you really feel that strongly write to your MP or better still petition one of the other parties to pledge to do something about it. Good luck

I can't remember when I last paid under £1 per litre in Northampton (being one of those 'insane' people putting super in the UK car).

Correction, it's 93.9 for NUL at Shell in Watford. I'll have a look at V-power when I'm in next. Must be the cheapest in the country.

Shell V-Power here is €1,53.9 or £1.07.7 so you are not alone in your stinking petrol prices. But at least I get to waste mine at 260 kmh on the autobahn if I want to

Theres a quite simple solution to high petrol prices. DON'T BUY PETROL!
If you still fill up then you are prepared to pay over £1 per litre so why are you moaning? They don't force you to buy it!
If people stopped buying it then the price would come down!

The tories may not reduce the tax on petrol, but they would certainly reduce it in many other areas. You can already thank them for reducing Inheritance Tax and they're not even in power yet!
