Default help/advie needed!

ok. so here's the story... most of ya will know that i'm a poor porper of a bus driver.. its a horrid job, due to passengers been awkward, traffic jams etc etc. i'm a fully skilled HGV/CAR mechanic (with papers) but dont like doing the job cos its dirty and horrid and i cant seem to settle down in a job... anyway, i'm off sick for two weeks now, due to stress, lmao!! me, stressed, never.. until today. the pressure of work, becoming a dad, some money issues have taken a toll and got the better.. anyway, during this time, i'm gonna have a think about a career change. staying within the motor industry, but in a different role. thing is, i dunno what. i love welding, but need certificates. i also like to teach, so maybe becoming an assessor or tutor. anyway, if anyone knows of any body who wants a trainee, within the motor industry, or has any advie, gimme a holla!!

Hi Andy,

Suggest you chat to someone at a motor related/specialist recruitment agency about your skills and what you would like to do and see what they suggest.

Maybe being a bit harsh here but I really can't see any job offers coming in for someone that takes off with stress due to a few 'life issues' that most of us have to deal with from time to time.

Sounds to me that you are obviously a bit down but going to the docs and getting the inevitable sick line is a cheap shot against those who are nervously ill for real...

Just my initial thoughts from reading between the lines. You simply hate your job, possibly mildly depressed and you just can't be bothered.

You have money worries and you are new dad, then you should be asking for every extra detail/shift available to clear your current problems rather than going off on the sick.

If you are throwing up or passing out or having constant panic attacks due to acute anxiety caused by the stress of your job then I take it all back.....or if you are freaking out in traffic jams due to panic attacks, but from the tone of your post, I doubt it. Sounds like you just can't be bothered dealing with the public.

Few people really love their job so my advice in the meantime would be to get on with it...

Hope I'm wrong and I am being unjustly harsh and if so, then good luck in your search....but I do feel that it's a bit of a reality check you need more than anything else...

Life can be tough, so deal with it

You describe acute stress in your synopsis SiPie... but the whole point of having a forced break is to avoid it getting that far.... acute stress can see people take 3 - 6 months off and in extreme situations having to retire.

If his early symptoms have enabled him to catch this in the bud then great! but his return to work should be planned and structured to ensure there are no unwarranted or unnecessary pressures.... typically an occupational health, HR and management responsibility....

No wonder the country is fecked Dci, with that many people involved in rehabilitating someone who's having a little bit of pressure to deal with

For the OP.

You sound like you need a change - always a good thing

But don't say your off work due to stress. Call it "Paternity Leave" or something. "Stressed" is right up there in the list of completely undesirable employee "issues" for any employer in the private sector, at least.

Start crashing your buses regularly. You'll soon get a job as a welder.
