Wondered if this was just me or are lots of you out there having the same problems with dropped call as I am. Doesn't seem to matter if I you my works phone, my phone or landline to Orange. You either just get three beeps and then nothing, or a few seconds of speach then the three beeps. It pi55es me off no end.
Anybody out there work for Orange?

Chaz,

i think that three beeps means network congestion - i.e. no available slots to make a call.

This might be because you are moving from one cell to another, and the new cell is "full".

Alternatively, i believe that some phones can be given a higher priority (e.g. for President Blair), and if they want a slot in a full cell, the network simply drops one of the "commoners" lines.

Are you (or at least the phone) in a popular area when the problems occur?

mb

p.s. At least Orange will give you a minutes credit for a dropped call You could end up very rich (in rollover minutes)

You would think so, but the number of minutes credited doesn't seem to represent the number of dropped calls. Perhaps I should move to another network. Any suggestions?

Don't consider other networks -- Orange is the least of the four evils (don't count people like Virgin as they all use one of the four's networks -- one2one in Virgin's case).

Have used all 4 networks over the years and Orange IS the BEST network for customer service without a doubt.

Carried 2 phones for a while(1work 1personal)and was able to compare service over most of the UK. Worked as far North as Inverness Scotland and as far South as Helston Cornwall.
Overall Orange was by far the better network.

Just remember, every network has a few poor reception area's.

Orange is always top of the JD Powers survey !

As you can tell I'm an Orange fan

Wouldnt want an Orange scoob tho'

Question

Chaz,

can you be more specific about the calls that are causing problems?

Do they all involve your (and the same) Orange handset?
Who originates the call?
Is the other person on a land-line or a mobile?
If the other person is on a mobile, where are they (good coverage)?
Are you (or the other mobile) moving (e.g. in a car) when making a call?
What signal strength do you (or the other mobile) have?
What phone do you have (and is it an old/bashed one)?

This is just to see if there is a pattern anywhere that might indicate the problem.

BTW, i too use Orange, and i think that it provides not only the best coverage, but the most consistent signal. It is also the ONLY network to provide high-speed (28Kb/s) access - the rest max out at 9.6Kb/s, so Orange must have ample capacity for most of the time!

Thumbs down

I have this problem too. Thought it was just my phone, but I have changed it three times. Its a complete pain most of the time. Will be changing phone model soon, but not holding out any hope. The signal strength is usually good.

Chaz,

if all three phones that you mentioned have the same problem, then it is probably not the handset that is at fault - unless there is some common "weird thing" that you do with them (such as: leaving them in a strong magnetic field, before you get the wrong end of the stick )

I haven't have the "three beeps" problem in years (for a while the switch that connected to BT wasn't big enough, which caused problems) so it could be a local congestion thing.

Have you reported the specifics of the problem to Orange, and asked whether your cell is overloaded?
