Default Any snake experts on here? did i cheat death or what?

have a look at this:

I encountered this whilst in the Saklekent gorge in turkey.
Note the coiled and ready to attack stance.
Despite being 400m deep the gorge is only 3 feet wide.
This probably explains why the slimey ****er lunged at me as we went past.
Any ideas what it is? did I cheat death steve irwin style or is it about as lethal as a carebear?
Any help would be appreciated!
astraboy.

It does look more like a Burmese Python, who can grow rather big

They will hurt more than a domestic cat, but generally dont attack humans, unless stuck in a gorge and hungry

Snakes can move faster than us, without legs.. That makes them dangerous. Lucky escape there IMO.

Don't get me started on the ones with the flat heads. You can't even wack them with a lump of wood as it will make no difference.

Ive had cats for years, and my mum's cat is worse than any other cat I have ever encountered

Our snake (python) bit me last year, it tickled more than anything

Thats because we know you love cats AB

Seriously though it does look like a Burmese Python, difficult to tell how big it is in that pic

We do have a Python and it is very sedate and more scared of us than us of it

Ok, anything that hisses, rattles, carry's lethal injections in its mouth and has no legs with a flat head is a bloody menace.

Luminous, all posts after a couple of pints may be a light hearted look on things, therefore not 100% accurate

I had to laugh at the flat head comment, I guess stamping on it with your foot will prove worthless too

at the pic

Ive seen burmese pythons in England too

It isnt a burmese as corrected by MK5, who I thought might have come along and guessed the snake in question, knowing she is/was a keeper of snakes
