If I see one more TV thread I'm going to ask for it be put on the reasons for infracting LOL

Well, it's plasma, so that tick one box
It's 1080p, so that ticks another

It's not a Pioneer, but at that price you ain't going to get one for that much

No, definitely 720p. I think it accepts 1080p signals - maybe that's what the specs say

Panasonic or Pioneer. Anyone who tells you different is just trying to drag you into their world of misery.

Must have been a misprint from the tech specs I read.

In that case, one can buy a Hitachi P42TP01 1080p plasma or LG 1080p plasma for the same price (actually a bit less).

Not sure which LG you're talking about but I've just had a quick check and the P42TP01 isn't 1080p. For 1080p, the panel needs to display 1920x1080. The cheapest I found for 1080p plasma was about £2.5k a couple of months back, which is why I went for the 720p.

Another owner off the TH-42px70, purchased from John Lewis with there standard 5 year warranty can honestly say that its a cracking set, done a lot off research prior to opting for this particular set and time and time again the above set was the one that was highly recommended.

check out the avforums website for loads off info on this set- best initial settings for running in etc, etc - a great site and well worth adding to your favourites list !!

isn'#t the native res on the 42px70 1024x768

Sharkman - I think it downscales to 1024*768 - even though it accepts 1080P inputs.

I think that's the avforms mega-geek approach - if they really need it, I would have thought that Panasonic would mention it in the user manual, but they don't.

Didn't bother with doing anything special with ours - just turned them on and watched them! (colour mode = Cinema IIRC)
