I am looking at buying a sensible but still fun car as a Company Car opt out alternative over the net (Not a Scoob, sorry, but the new Golf TDI 6spd 150BHP ) . I am looking at buying it and have so far only found autozone4cars.com and been quoted 14.5k for a spec that would be about 18.5 over here.

Anyone actually done this, can give me the pitfalls etc. or recommend any other sites?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

absolutely get a reference - only buy from someone that you know offers good honest service.
There is a newsgroup about imported cars, which offers some help, as does ImportingImprezas.
Good luck,
KF.

KF,

Thanks. You mean a usenet group, or a yahoo group like the scoob one you reference?

Do you know its name?

Thanks,

Alex

Make sure you speak to Litchfield Imports (www.litimports.co.uk).

Fantastic service and they will get you a good price.

Alex,

I'm hoping to buy one (Golf GT TDi PD 150, that is) for the other half sometime later in the year.

Can you keep this thread updated as and when you sort out a deal?

Also, any idea what mods can be done to the Golf, to get extra oomph?

Cheers

Will do, and plan B is probably still to get the car as a company scheme if importing proves too hard, so I'll let you know what I think of it.

http://www.broadspeed.com/ were I think one of the first in the UK. They were Mini tuners in the 60s, so they've been around a while. Prices seem pretty good too.

Chaps,

Thanks for the links so far, I will try each site and compare quotes, but what I REALLY want is someone who has done this and can recommend a company, anyone out there?

make sure the company actually can place the order for a 150bhp model as I can't get one on order as the order book seems to be closed due to popularity. Appartently it will open again but nobody knows when and the price will be significantly more so I have been told.

My friend has 20 on order and says he may even have to give up some of his orders and doesn't have a delivery time for them.

130bhp models are on 12-14 weeks delivery, how do I know, well I have got one sitting in my garage now. 50+mpg is great but I'm still after a Scooby too!!

laters

BigGT3Fan - I am in the process of importing a Yaris SR from Norway through Litchfields and they have been excellent.

Excellent, thanks. Will give it a go.

So far I've had a couple of firms (netcarco & broadspeed) tell me they can't supply the car, or give a date when they can, but autozone4cars and litchfield say they can....

Still looking....
