Are you on the Ringers mailing list Matt?
Ben Loveloy seems to have enough electronics widgets and gadgets rigged up in his car to start a shop (one of which is a bullet cam).

Hi Matt,
I've messed with them quite a bit, both on cars and more recently on mountain bikes.
To look for:
1. Solid body, i.e. ally, rather than plastic.
2. More expensive, but interchangable lenses to adjust your field of view which adds or detracts the feeling of speed.
3. good solid cablr connection.
4. 380 lines at least and of course colour.
Most are analogue output, so a direct connection to a VIDEO IN connection on camcorders (that can do it) or I use a video walkman.
The other cable to these cameras is a 12V D.C. feed. So on cars, it is easy to hook them up to a power supply.
With regards to sound, some cameras do have sound, but most are poor. I use a pair of small powered microphones one for LEFT the other for RIGHT channels and hook them directly the LEFT and RIGHT AUDIO IN connections on my video walkman.
Job done.
As for mounting, well they are so light that I've had them attached to door mirrors with two rounds of insulation tape or a couple of cable ties. Because they are so light, they have no inertia, so when you accel. hard or brake hard the camera doesn't bounce about.
You can get much more expensive kit but an excellent starter kit can be found here (http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/helmet_cameras.htm). It is so cheap you really don't worry about the camera at all (ish). The recording gear is protected in the car so are much happier.
Good luck.
P.S. For a mad shot, mount to the lower lip of your front spoiler and come up behind people quickly, then pass them.
Cheers
Ian

IWatkins,
you have got me interested in this now (and i too have a video Walkman!!)
There are two cameras that seem suitable for car use on the RF Concepts web-site - the 21CW (bullet camera) and the 27C-W (waterproof square).
Both seem to have similar technical specs (and prices), so have you any thoughts as to the pros and cons of each? Can you get small suction (windscreen) mounts that will fit these cameras?
Cheers,
mb

Not very technical when it comes to this sort of stuff, but saw drift video from fxracer site and was hooked on idea of videoing track days. Looked at bullet camera but not sure what else to go for, I know I need camcorder etc but which one and what sockets does it need to hook upto tv or laptop.
Cheers Terry

Oops.
Boomer,
The square one works just as well (so I'm told) but I find the cylindrical ones easy to mount. As for windscreen mounts, well, I haven't seen any but no reason you could get a big rubber sucker and bodge one of these cameras to them.
I've used a flat thin magnet with a bullet camera stuck to the top. This works well on the roof of cars but of course may not work on all panels as some are ally.
Ian,
Commission ? I wish
tezza,
Should answer some of your questions:
http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/helmet-c...with Camcorder
The gist is that you will need a camcorder that has VIDEO IN (not all do). Failing that you could use a video walkman.
Cheers

Er sweat building up, i looked in the picture and basically you need a lead which will give you a Red, White and Yellow connection right?
I looked at it thought yep i like it, in goes the CC details.
Im pretty sure i have a DV In, as i can plug it into my tele with the above wires, which i guess is the same sort of thing, Red and White - Picture and yellow sound.
I bet you guys can tell im a real expert.

I want to buy a bullet camera for Trackdays, what should i look for?
Is it as easy as plugging it straight into the camcorder ?
Are the microphones going to be that effective outside the car due to wind noise ?
How is best to mount them ?
Thankx
