Default Average Savings Up

Good news - the average individual saving is £81:43 a week - £353 a month.

Sounds quite a low amount?

How the hell do they work that out?

That's a lot of money to many people.

Indeed it is a lot to many, however Lewis is still living in some alternate reality where he pretends to be wealthy

Well,if people ditched mobile phones, internet, sky and the obligatory finance agreement for their latest car there's a quick spare£500 a month or£6000 a year
Must work out how much I waste actually.Reckon its loads which I could be saving

What would you consider to be a reasonable amount then Pete? Not fishing, just genuinely interested.

Why not just live a little?!

We just syphon off a chunk of our company dividend every few months. No planning, we just do it.

Not surprising savings are up - looks like cash is king at the moment, and banks are offering some very tempting rates to get savers in.

Anglo Irish bank offering 1 year fixed rate bonds of 6.9% AER!!

Fixed Rate Bond, Savings Account, Investments, Corporate Banking- Anglo Irish Bank UK

I would be suprised if Pete's job at Morrisons paid that much, i thought Ting-Tong topped up the PSL fund with her ping-pong ball projecting antics for the locals in his village pub

she fire ball wery-wery long way!

Everyone has their own personal 'reasonable amount' I just thought that £353 a month was a bit low ................ I am assuming by that statement that it is the disposable income (which, of course, it may not be).

I feel happier saving quite a bit more than that - but that is just my personal choice.

Lewis - Maybe some people can't save more than that.

Maybe they are low earners who should be shipped over to Poland to do some real work?

LOL, I work in a IFA practice and I've got bugger all I'll admit. What I do have I want to spend on cars so indeed I am the fool.

My 6 year old daughter has more savings now than I ever had. Hopefully she'll use it for university and not bumming around tailand

I was taking the wee wee.

But this line is not what I'd call "impartial"

The point that's being missed is this is the "average", the very high earners saving £1000's a month will be heavily skewing these figures. I suspect your average joe is saving considerably less than that.

Pete - what are you saving for - If I was your age I would be living ever day like it was my last.

Anyway - 'Average' savings doesn't actually mean anything. Of my last 5 clients, one has savings of 100k and the other 4 have no savings. That means they have average savings of 20k.

Sat at home watching daytime TV then lewis??

I used to save a 2 grand a month before I took my 'sabaticle'. I can happily live on the interest payments my savings provide.

If only - i can only aspire and dream of reaching those diizzy heights.
Currently i am the chap who cleans the dog muck off of the trolley wheels and straightens the bent bars. It will be a long time (and tons of dog poo scraping) before i graduate to assistant collector of trolleys and get my hands on the real thing!

A group of FA's and IFA's sat outside the pub once talking about the money they used to make when they worked together selling endowments and the like for a company that got sued and went bankrupt. One says if I ever earn over 10k per month again I am going to save some.

I save some, then I spend it.

Do the savings figures include pensions ?
