Default Police Smash frony door in !!!

Any legal eagles out there ??

I let a property to someone who unknown to me is a bad un !!
Police cave in the door to my property and arrest him .Hes now on remand for several offences .I go to the property yesterday to inspect the property on a 6 month basis to find the door that I had put in at a cost of £425 only 12 months ago is battered and cracked and needs replacing .Plastic double glazed type .

Can I claim for the damage .The response I got from the Police when I phoned today was basically "smoke it sonny ,get it from your Tenant !!"
Not easily done when he is in the clink .

Does anybody know if I can claim it from the Police .
I have e-mailed a letter of complaint asking for it to be replaced but have I got much chance ??
Anybody on here who can give advice please ,most appreciated .
Thankyou.

Apologies just noticed spelling error on Title!! Hohum.

Occupiers Liability Act 1957

It will be down to the tenant as the 'occupier' as he was the one with a sufficient degree of control who failed to open the door to the police and was therefore aware (as a reasonable man) that they would indeed kick the door in.

Therefore he accepts liability for subsequent repair costs.

Yes it is down to the Tenant to replace the door

you as a Landlord should give him the bill, probably wont get you very far though, but you should keep his deposit

Look at the bright side, you have just got rid of a bad tenant

Ahhh, I wonder if the police actually rung the doorbell/knocked the door first though?

You know on those docusoaps where they bash teh door in to some scummy crack chav who proclaims to "av dun nathin, mate"....I haven't seenn many where the police announce their arrival and ask for the door to be opened....normally its bash door open shout police, run out the back door (which the perpertrator will be after jumping out the bedroom window in his keks, grab him and slam the ***** against a wall, cuffs on then bash his head whens he's shoved into the paddy waggon.....normally with some 15yr pregnant slapper giving some lip telling the police what scum they are etc

Of course the notes in the police report will say they knocked the door first and he hit his whilst trying to resist arrest (which I have no problem with.....actually should have "accidentally" hit his head a few more times for good meaure ).

Actually they should have contacted you and held you while they nabbed the keys. That's them giving you the chance to open the property as posted by DCI. If they didn't contact you they could be in the wrong. They have had to hold you until the operation was over (he might have been your mate and you could have warned him what was about to happen, but at least you'd have had a door. Hope he paid his rent!

Oh, and sell his telly if he had one as compo!

They don't have to tell anyone if they're executing a warrant.

A Magistrate authorises it, and the door goes in.

We had a raid on a property near us when i was married to the first wife...

we suspected something was up, as we used to get some right dodgey characters knocking on the door at all hours mumbling for sleeve (steve)

went out to work one morning and there was a squad of bib's in riot gear next to our car...5 minutes later his door went northbound, (luckily they got the right house, our front door was exactly the same .

turned out he was dealing....never saw him or his mrs again

Mind you the two little old lady's, whose front door they battered down a couple of days later , wernt to impressed, as the bloke they wanted lived next door, and did a runner in the confusion

Send the magistrate the bill and let them sort it then. Maybe they'll be more careful about putting peoples doors in in future if they have to pay for it themselves?
