Default Video Camera's - What to go for ?

Good morning gents,

Need to sip from the fountain of knowlegde again.

Im considering buying a video camera to record my nephew growing up, and other events in my life, i.e. my g/f stripping :-)

Been looking around, not sure what type to go for ? small dvd recorders, hard state ones ?? Im not after a bulky unit as I know that I wont use it, would love a small camera size one, as my g/f camera takes pics, and little videos.

Also, scared I might go for a format that is out of date in a few years. If I go for the hardrive one, I suppose I can down load that to my pc, but then need to convert it too DVD, which is a ball ache.

Or go for the DVD recorder one, but they are quite bulky.

So, need your wisdom gents. Also, whats a good place to buy them from ?

Cheers all

:-) wow, after all these years didnt realise there was a photography section. Sorry about that. I tend to go to non scooby, then other motors, then the sale sections. Wow, live and learn.

Cheers

Id stick to Mini-DV. Both DVD and fixed disk-type recorders convert the images to MPEG2 on-the-fly; Mini-DV uses MJPEG, which results in a far better inamge.

I too went through this debate about a year ago. I decided to buy a half decent digi cam with video facility.
I`d personally go for a digi cam. But, its your choice at the end of the day.
You pay your money, you make the decision at the end of the day.
Just some impartial advice.
