Possible to investigate Criminal Record of a dead Person?
Hi All,
Unusual question, but 100% genuine...is it possible to investigate the criminal record of a dead person? Are the dead still protected by privacy laws? If not, where could I find the criminal past of somebody who has been deceased for 5 years or so now? Any help most appreciated,
R

The record still remains on the Police National Computer, so still protected by the same laws.
This might change after x amount of years, but I don't think it does.

If they have been convictd then it will be in the public domain.
If you know where they lived then a search of the local papars may help, even try google if you have a name

Thanks guys. Without going into much detail, I am interested in events in the 60's and 70's most specifically and it's a family member I am referring to. I'm not sure if that changes things re access of police records and confidentialty etc. As I say, person is now deceased but obviously in those days publicity isn't what it is now, and we aren't talking major big crime so i don't think there wouyld have been much/any reporting anyway. It's quite a sensitive subject in some regards and something I am seriously interested in pursuing for specific personal reasons (yes, I know, 'why scoobynet' etc....but I have to start somewhere and as many of you may have noticed I'm on the Spanish Costas so don't have F2F access to many resources).
I've been told that some Private Investigators can produce this info so I guess it's another avenue, but I wanted to ensure I wasn't missing the obvious first....
Cheers!
