McQueen's Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta Lusso sells for £1.2 million
Wish I had one the Euro Lottery this week:
McQueen's Ferrari sells for $2.3m
Actor Steve McQueen's 1963 Ferrari has sold for $2.3m (£1.2m) to an anonymous bidder in California, nearly doubling its estimated price.
The metallic-brown Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso was expected to fetch $800,000 to $1.2m (£600,700).
McQueen bought the car, with beige leather interior, in 1963 and used it as his everyday runaround for 10 years.
"I couldn't be happier for the car and the legacy of Steve McQueen," said the car's seller, Mike Regalia.
McQueen traded the Ferrari in 1973 but left his stamp on the "McQueen Ferrari Lusso", which was acquired in 1997 by Mr Regalia, a car restorer.
When asked how much he had paid for it, Mr Regalia said: "A new Lexus would cost more than what I paid".
The car was sold at a Christie's auction at the Monterey Jet Center.
McQueen - "king of cool".
Mr Regalia restored the car to its original condition, which took more than 4,000 hours of work.

Very cool!
At the height of 80s madness, I saw three RHD Daytona Spiders for sale in two garages near me all in the same few months.
One was £400k, another was £500k and the final one was £1.6m!
That's three of the six ever made that I've seen.

His wife bought him the car as a birthday present, she ordered the colour as well, which at the time seemed a strange choice but it does look rather good.
The engines reliability forced him to sell the car as it was constantly burning oil due to the soft valves and seats.
He was known to drive his cars very hard.

It's amazing how much difference a previous owner can make to a car's value. My mate's 250 GT Lusso was originally owned by Buddy Rich, but it's up for a bargain £250,000
He's giving it away
