Buying an import from auction
I'm thinking of getting a Pajero direct import and buying from a dock auction. If I do get one, where do I stand in driving the thing back home. Am I allowed to drive it directly home without UK plates (or probably without any plates), MOT tax etc? It'd be a 100 mile drive back, not just around the corner.

Not sure on the rules, but make sure you don't drive it in a Spanish speaking country. Whoever was on the "naming new vehicles" desk at Mitsi that day was having a bit of a laugh

Most are cr@p at UK dock auctions, the worst of the worst, usually.
You can't drive it, you used to be able to drive it home, but now you are ONLY allowed to drive it to a pre booked MOT and back again (home).
Check the DVLA website it is on there, somewhere.

Have looked at a site recommended by someone here, A1 car auctions in Southampton. Agreed there would be a lot of rubbish being sold dockside. On the A1 auction site they list the Jap auction grade next to each car. Driving to a pre booked MOT is ok, it might be 100 miles from Southampton though
