Flymo electric motor burnt out.
Doing the lawn today and the mower decided not to play anymore
It's the motor for sure and I'm pretty sure it's less than a year old. Which surprises me why it's gone, as it hasn't had a hard life.
Was looking for the guarantee and it seems the Missus has done one of her clean up jobs and it can't be found
What my chances of getting it fixed FOC without the guarantee? No doubt zero
Otherwise if i take it to a repairer, any body any idea on the cost of new motor? Or is it just cheaper to cut my losses and buy a new one (NOT flymo)!
Thanks for any help!
Charlie

Take it back to the retailer if I were you. Have you got proof on a bank/ credit card statement proving your date of purchase? That should suffice I think. It proves that you bought said lawnmower from that shop. Its not as if you are trying to bluff them for a new one.
They may even offer you a replacement one there & then, I don`t know.
Worth a try anyway.

Oh another thing, if they start to blame you for its short lifespan. Proceed to kick up a fuss, they`ll exchange it then. Voice of experience

I wasn't cutting down a rain forest (5ft high)
A bit longer than normal due to the wet weather, but not over the top.
I'll try to take it back to the store with the big orange sign and see what they have to say. If they kick off, I'll kick off too

Should have bought a Bosch/Qualcast, they have 3-5 warrenty!!
Better mowers as well
If less than 1 year old and you have not hit anything you should not have then you should get a replacement / fixed

On some designs, the motor housing gets full up with dried grass cuttings. The result is the motor overheats and dies (unless there is a thermal cut out), or worse...it catches fire (dry grass+heat=burn baby burn ).....
Seeing that I have no life whatsoever, here's proof of how much crap can get in the motor housing:

(can't belive I actually took those, yet alone uploaded them )
Other than that, there is nothing much to go wrong on them: Some have a solonoid blade brake, that can break...just need to remove it. Sometimes the comutator oxidises (damp environment), nothing a quick stripdown and some fine sandpaper wouldn't cure...ditto with the brushes). Starting capacitor can die...just swap it off another motor of similar size (doubt it'll have one anyway). In most of the above the motor will just buzz and do nothing. Oh and the bearings/bushes can seize..bit of 3-in-one should sort that.
Most likely curlprit in my book is the switch, cheap and nasty on most mowers, safety interlock wears out so you can't switch it on, or the cable breaks internally where it enters the switch housing. In both cases it probably starts getting temperamental before it dies completely (no life what so ever).
