Saw it tonight. Thought it was a bit long and tedious. That explains why it should have been a double feature. The film played like two different stories. But thats typical Tarrantino. The first part is shot in some grainy, flickering old style film. complete with cigarette burns in the corners etc. The second part is part black and white, but then goes into colour.
I wouldn't say its a good film. But I had to see it.
EDIT. Just looked at the clip above. I thought you meant Death Proof was a double feature split into two films! It felt like it was over two and a half hours worth on its own.
Must watch that Grindhouse to see if thats any better.

Isn't the grindhouse double bill supposed to have some spoof trailers for upcoming 'B' movies too?
I've not caught either Death Proof or Planet Terror yet, I must get around to it

Watched Death Proof last night and to be honest didn't really know what to make of it. There was some boring bits to it but when it got interesting it was good if a bit strange - some really good car stunts. The intentional crap editing effects and grainy film were quite amusing and the soundtrack was really good. The ending was pretty funny if a bit sudden !
It did feel like 2 films in one, especially because Stuntman Mike disappeared midway through the film only to reappear later.
Looking forward to seeing Rodriguez' Planet Terror now ...

Watched Death Proof and Planet Terror last night.
Both worth a watch but not outstanding films. DP chase scenes were cool and very good they way they used the actors. Don't know why it switches from grainy and mistake ridden (focus, shot angle) to near perfect for act 2.
Planet Terror was amusing. Odd seeing Bruce Willis in it. Thought the missing reel was clever (this happened to either Tarantino or Rodriguez at a cinema and he liked the way its made him wonder what happened)
Watched a few of the spoof trailers. Rob Zombie did one of them.

We watched it, got bored.
FAR too much long winded dialogue.
We ended up fast forwarding the dialogue just to watch the car chases - which were ok.
The knackered film "effect" was annoying; simply because of all the cheap low budget 3rd rate B-movies I've seen. I've never seen one "that" bad. Sure stick in some scratches, dust and the odd frame skip. But it was so overdone it was obviously faked to look like that.
One thing I do love about Tarantino films is they always appear to be set in the 60's/70's era (clothes, cars, music etc), so at first your always wondering what year the film is supposed to be set in. Then get kinda of dissapointed to find its set in the present day.

LOL, from IMdb
"Yesterday He Was A Decent Man Living A Decent Life. Now He Is A Brutal Savage Who Must Slaughter To Stay Alive"
Theres a 20 Film pack of "Grindhouse" double features. They are as you can imagine absolute sh!te but therein lies the appeal I guess. Can get it for like £15. for the pack. I'll watch anything once so might buy it.
Some have said that these Grindhouse films are actually too polished.
Some have said the that immatation grindhouse these two films are don't work but I think it gives an insight into what to expect.
Death Proof is the only film I've seen that acknowledges the original Gone in 60 Seconds as a classic chase film. Not that Angle Jolly mess. Good the way the Kiwi is actually doing the "ships mast" rather than a double.

A grindhouse is an American term for a theater that mainly showed exploitation films. It is also a term used to describe the genre of films that played in such theatres. Grindhouses were known for continuous programs of B movies, usually consisting of a double feature where two (and very often three) films were shown consecutively. Most of these films were made for Drive-in theaters as second and third features. Since most large urban areas did not have drive-ins, these movies were shown in older theaters that formerly featured burlesque shows which included "bump and grind" dancing, leading to the term "grindhouse." On the other hand, the producers, distributors, and exhibitors of the films were required to provide a large amount of low budget films for double features so would "grind"' them out like mincemeat. Beginning in the late 1960s and especially during the 1970s, the subject matter of grindhouse films was dominated by explicit sex, violence, bizarre or perverse plot points, and other taboo content.

DtD was written by Tarantino (Death Proof) and directed by Rodriguez (Planet Terror)
DP doesn't actually change story but is very much an "Act 2"
PT is a completely different story altogether.

Holy thread revival Batman!
Anyway, watched "Planet Terror" a few ago, and it was a laugh!!
If they make "Machete" should be another laugh, except keep the useless dialogue down, I agree that they go on a bit too much. Worked well in "Pulp Fiction" but sometimes.........................

What a dodge challenger n charger being driven in crap stunt scenes, ok whatever rings your bell. Tarantino making out that they are some kind of revolutionary car chase scenes, when they simply are nothing special at all. You are obviously a sheep led by hype n the media

Actually aside from the fact that in no other films has someone spent quite so long on the bonnet of a car without a harness before, jumping two cars nose to tail un-connected hasn't been done before.
