Default Decent Mojito Recipes?

So far I have:

White Rum (seems Havana Club is recommended)
Lime Juice
10 mint leaves
2 slices of lime
Ice
Soda Water

A lot of places on t'internet suggest using sugar syrup as easier to mix than normal sugar. However its hard stuff to find - at least the right one.

Only place I found it was Oddbins but was Monin Gomme Syrup which has a hint of orange blossom. Im looking for plain sugar syrup. Checked Monin website and they do a plain Pure Cane Sugar one but doesnt appear like anyone sells it here in the UK.

So what does everyone else use - if sugar what type as some places even say powdered sugar which I assume means Icing Sugar?

Cheers,
Simon.

1/2 - 3/4 quarters of a lime in slices. Three spoons sugar one shot havana club especial. add the mint then muddle. After all the sugar has dissolved add the crushed ice one more dose of havanna club on top then mix with a tea spoon to spread the lime and mint. Stick a mint tip on the top and job done.

What type of sugar - normal granulated, finer caster sugar or powdered sugar?

Bag of caster sugar, add just enough water to cover, bring to a simmer, do not boil. Simmer gently for 5 minutes (otherwise it will not be clear when cold). Cool, place in sterilised bottle in fridge. Lasts for weeks.

Sugar syrup - done!

Alternatively, go to a French supermarket and buy it, dirt cheap!
