Cool

That was very impressive....

To his credit James May lapped it up and enjoyed every orgasmic second. No puking or doubling up on the tarmac afterwards crying like a baby, unlike some other TG presenters I can think of

Truly amazing pieces of kit Saw 2 of them displaying at Fairford last Saturday.
0-6 miles up in 150secs I liked the comment 'it climbs like a homesick angel'

How does that rank in the manoeuvrability stakes? Ive seen the MiG29 OVT do things that just didnt seem possible.

There's a number of programmes that have been on. Try YouTube. Essentially, it's - I think the term is "super maneuverable " at all speeds, supersonic and subsonic.

PS: It's an American series so steel yourself for the usual "Computer CBT course" commentary/narration.

Su-27/Mig-29 would be a very big headache!

It has a delta wing, which has it's downsides, and the Su-27/31/35/37 can/have vectored thrust and more evolved aerodynamics......

Don't get TG out here so I missed, and YouTube is still banned so I can't watch it there either

Janspeed, I thought the Typhoon had vectored thrust too

It's probably an irrelevant question. Most of our future wars will be fought against small groups of people hiding amongst civilians and in caves. I'd be surprised if there is another good "dogfight" soon. Unless the Argies fancy another go. What did they replace their Mirage IIIs with?

Independant research disagrees.
A Typhoon would win 82% of its engagements with a Su-27/35. This is only bettered by the F-22.

Of course these are in no way as qualified as ScoobyNet experts

I saw it - awesome! I really don't like flying (not in big planes anyway - small ones where I can keep an eye on the pilot are fine!) - but I would LOVE to have a go in one of those - what an experience! And what an amazing piece of kit!

Watched James Mays programs last night and last week. Great programs. Both James May and Jeremy Clarkson are both great presenters away from Top Gear.

Only shame is that each program isn't an hour long. Seems to cram too much into the half hour.

Plus, didn't anyone else feel sorry for the poor chap how had to sit in the middle of the spinning `G` force machine. How often must he feel sick?

James May is a very good presenter and his programmes have been very interesting and enjoyable so far.

Was interested to know what the downsides of the delta wing form is. I know you may think I am biased in that respect, but the delta is known for being able to manoeuvre extremely well at lower speeds due to the overwing vortex which is generated at the leading edge of the wing at the higher angles of attack. The Concorde is the prime example of that of course. We were able to prove that to the F15 pilots who found that they could not turn with a Vulcan at height.

I would certainly like to get my hands on a Typhoon, but that would go without saying naturally.

It's extremely agile, perhaps not so agile as the OVT aircraft. However, there are some serious doubts (well founded too) about the combat effectiveness of some of the more typical OVT derived agility.

Give me the Typhoon anyday
