Ok

Anyone any possible ideas what this could be

It is actually a close up of this,

which are the garden benches I have outside, it does look fungal of sorts, and I have had these benches for quite a few years, but a few months ago I sanded them down and repainted them, but I have never seen these before on them, I sit on them when I go outside to have a smoke, and Scooby jumps on them, and sometimes if it has been raining has been seen to lick anything that is wet when he has drank his water in his bowls

I am going to print them off and take them to the vets in the morning to show him, and the guy at work, as his Sister spent years studying Fungal things

You reckon this could be the cause of Scooby's poorlyness?

It is a potential possibility

Here are a couple more I just took

The Vet said earlier about Apsergillosis that it can appear on grass cuttings (more wild grass than garden grass) that develop spores on them, and that dogs tend to sniff round a lot of these and the grass bits go up there nose with the spores on and then they stick to the nasal passage

I know I cut the grass on Saturday but she said it would have had to have been there for weeks to allow the fungus to start growing

Now these are only just visible and is essentially tiny yellow dots

I took the pictures with a digital SLR and 135mm lens with 68mm of extension tubes and a small maglight to illuminate them

Don't think it is the threat
Aspergillus/Aspergillosis Website

May be worth swabbing some up with a cutip and putting it in a plastic bag and taking it to the vet

It would seem that Aspergillus is a mould rather than a fungus from a 30 second google, which means individuals are unlikely to be visible, certainly a coloney would be.

On second thoughts, I wonder if that isn't just resin seapage. Is it sticky to the touch?

I did do a quick google images on spores to see if I could find anything like it

For 30 seconds effort it can't hurt, worst case scenario you make a complete prune of yourself!

I was going to take a swab, but when I went back out most of it had dried/closed up, probably because its gone cold and dark now

Ill take a look in the morning and see if I can get some kind of swab then

You mention that you sanded down and retreated the bench......could it be a resin from the wood or a residue from the stain/varnish/oil? Check the can you used as I know some are very toxic to animals

I will check the tin tonight

I showed the Vet the pics, and he said that gardens etc are usually full of some kind of fungal activity, and could pretty much be anything

So its probably unlikely it is anything to do with Scooby and his illness

Worth doing and asking the question though
