Mega-Stream,
You sussed me! My company put me through my MCSE at gun point, and to be honest its not the most noble of courses.I enjoy certain aspects Of I.T but not all!

Anyhows what i am trying to do is basically clean up the system, get it working better performance wise, delete hidden unused files, get it running smoother and faster!

If your the man who can as they say,let me know what i can do

Cheers

Nick

If you can't use uninstall to remove unwanted programs from your system I'd be a bit careful or you could bugger things..

If its disk space your after do a search on all files on your drives for files bigger than, say 1mb, have a look at all the files it finds and see if they are needed, also delete temporary Internet files to free space.

If its just a slow system or missing files being reported on boot I'd have a go at re-installing things from scratch, ditch the donkey and get rid of Win95, why you running that on an AMD1800??!!
Have a go with 2000 Professional.

Ohhh Win98, the os that can't use memory above about 96mb.

If you are after disk space then try emptying the temp folders located in the root of c drive and in windows. They are usually full of crap. If the delete fails on an open file then skip that one and continue on the others.

As for speed increase in Windows, ditch Win98, especially on a cpu like yous

Boot from the Win 2k install CD and use your Win 98 partition for the install! ;-)

Or dual boot between the two if you must, I do that - games on a clean Win 98 install on one partition, Win 2k for everything else on a different partition.

HHxx - are you sure that you mean 96 MB? ;-)

take a look at xp-erience.org and find the link to take you to the same tools that do the same for WindozXX.
