From: was New Zealand now UK again
Ken Livingstone is apparently planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated £100M in the docklands.
Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities. anything but such a scheme as this:
The mosque will be BIGGER THAN ST PAUL'S!!!
The plan is for the mosque to be so big so that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will see it as the biggest landmark in London , bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium.
The vote so far is 56% in favour. It looks like the Muslim community in the UK is casting its vote in droves, and as usual the British are burying their heads in the sand....
It is an undemocratic use of British Tax payers money, especially when our Churches that are 100's of years old get no government funding to keep their structures standing, and we are supposedly a Christian nation.

Another Mosque is the last thing this country needs
Livingstone is a disgrace and needs removing from power ASAP. Perhaps the BNP will ram burning Jeeps/Mercedes into it repeatedly until someone gets the message this country doesn't want or need more Mosques!

With respect to the proposal associated with a site near the Olympic development in Newham, we understand from Newham Council that there is no current planning permission or application for a mosque and Newham Council do not expect a planning application in the near future.
Ken Livingstone's a feckin vote *****.... what a complete waste of feckin space

Unless the intention is capitalise on peoples' anxiety and fear following the car bombs?
E2A - sources other than Daily Mail (which started the story) confirm (i) no government or GLA funding is planned or in place (ii) no planning permission has been granted and (iii) the mosque is intended to seat 12,000 not 70,000.
Still a big ****-off mosque, and personally I've no desire to see that, or big hindi temple or a synagogue or a church... but other people like their religion and I have to get used to that, it seems to me.

Yes. An old story that was mostly wrong when it came it out months ago, now revived for now apparent reason.

Or People of European extraction finally getting fed up and starting to speak out about the huge increase in non European extraction people forcing their views in violent and other means..
No way am I getting used to that
Not at all sensationalist, then. Also, there have been no public funds allocated.
It's a piece of fiction.
There MAY be a new Mosque going to be built in London, sometime in the future, BUT it will be funded by Saudi money, not UK taxpayers.
Even Livingstone isn't mad enough to do what has been reported
Alcazar

I did, just thought it could be a bit clearer.

I was talking about all religious buildings, which are in my view a waste of space. In fact, christianity affects my life more, because I have to sit through church weddings now and then.
A church full of people and maybe 10% have ever been before, or sung a hymn other than Jerusalem, let alone read the bible. Nothing shows our contempt for christianity more clearly than people's willingness to stand up in church and pretend they believe it in God for the day... for the sake of a pretty wedding. It's a sad and pathetic insult to real christians in my view. I don't say that on the big day, obviously
And yet when someone wants to worship a different god, christianity is fundamental to our way of life.
I've got a lot of new churches round my way, mostly run and used by African communities. What's the deal there then? Would that be acceptable to you? I can't work out whether your objection is about colour, culture or belief.
