Menthol's effect on blocked up noses??

I've had the mother of all colds the last few days.
I had a terminally runny noise, sniffing Vic and Karvol made the mucus go all hard and so unblock my nose.
Then the cold changed so that the mucus was all hard and blocked up my nose again
Vic and Karvol made it go runny again.
How can Menthol make snot go solid when it's runny and runny when it's solid
BTW don't muppet this one, I want to know the medical why's.

Neil, you needs to drink LOADS of liquid to make it all runny,if you don`t drink it thickens up again.
BTW....try blowing it occasionally....that usually helps!

So how much drink will it take to make it just the right consistancy?
But, That does'nt answer how menthol make it go runny when it needs to be runny and solid when it needs to be solid?

I think you're interpreting the word 'drink' in the wrong way. Mind you have to say I felt better after half a bottle of Rioja last night....
I don't fancy my chances of convincing the missus that a curry and several pints are just what I need <sniff>.

Neil, are you sending your cold to all of us? I woke up in the night and couldn`t stop sneezing and now I feel absolutely ****.
