Remember the smoking ban?
Well now it may apply to your own home.
I don't smoke but if this is rolled out I may well keep a pack at home for these special occasions when the lightbulb stasi come round.

How long until New Liebour get the Police to go round handing out fines to all the smokers who step out the "designated smokign areas"?
Liebour dont seem to do anything until theres the chance for them to milk some more money out of the public

So, if you refuse to comply, you have to have the meeting at the council offices. Could be interesting if these new snoop round your house to see if you have nice carpets so we can put your council tax up surveys come in!

I take it this will only be for council owned properties ?
Not that I smoke in my own house, as I don't
thinking about it, does the new smoking ban mean you can no longer smoke in rented properties, like council houses etc

I don't smoke often, and not in the house. It's the principle that makes my blood boil. My home has nowt to do with the Council or anyone else for that matter

How hard is it gonna be to not smoke for 10 minutes whilst some council worker/gasman/phone co etc. person is at your house.
Hardly any difference than putting the TV down when they are there, or putting your dog that doesn't like strangers in another room etc.
Some perspective please.....
I don't agree that the govt./council should have to ban it in the 1st place though. However, if people aren't considerate enough to stub out whilst house guests that don't like smoke are around you then I suppose they have to start enforcing these things.
Like I say, some perspective please. Surely you can not smoke for 10 minutes once in a blue moon when a council worker visits.

Oh I agree, but this would never had come about if people were more considerate in the 1st place.
People disagree with nanny-state policies but at the same time give them so much ammunition to support their policies.
I blame Tony Blair.
With freedom comes responsibility. Don't be responsible and lose that freedom.

Yep all for that but any worker should have the right to refuse to work in a smokey environment.
If anyone refuses cut off their gas/electric/water until they can provide a smoke free environment for the workers.
It's easy, smoke free or no work carried out.
Cheers

Good point, but it is my home and my rules, anyway, who stands over the workers, watching and smoking
I usually have far more interesting things to do

If anyone refuses to work in your home because you smoke, theres a million others that will happily do it, tell em to shove it up their asses!
If a council worker comes to inspect my house for council tax valutation purposes. Not only will the windows be boarded up, there will be 10 josticks(sp?) lit up and smoking away in each room, a *** in one hand and a joint in the other !
barstewards!

Just remembered I had the boiler changed a few weeks ago and the plumbers kept setting off the smoke alarms from the soldered joints.
He didn't smoke **** though.

The ban on smoking in my house has existed forever
When I'm working and in folk's houses, I always politely ask them to stub it out as I'm a healthy non smoker and don't wish to have my lungs filled with their poison.
They usually comply, and the ones that don't usually get off on the wrong foot with me

I'm sorry but whether I smoke or not, nobody is going to dictate to me what I can or can't reasonably do in my own home! I'll go to prison first!
Any council worker or other cretin at the door that asks me to do something that I do not want to do in my own home, be that smoking or anything else will find themselves stood at the front door with it impolitely slammed in their self righteous faces.. and I couldn't care less if it's pissing it down!

Well if he's a copper or something else then he can stand at my door to talk to me unless he has a warrant to enter in which case I'll probably be getting arrested for something and I probably wouldn't give a monkey's by that point

Alternatively after thinking about this... if he stood there and started shouting "Well you were seen exposing yourself...blah blah blah" I might reconsider

As with any thing this Government has to do with, they think the answer is to tax it. So long as they can increase revenue that seems to be the path they follow. As with green issues. If its costing you more then it must be doing good.
