TomTom in Spain?!?
My parents are going to their villa in spain next week and my dad was going to buy the maps for Spain for his TomTom 1.
But he was told by a friend that he had heard they were rubbish.
Anyone had any experience of this?
Is he better of with a map?

As long as the maps are the newest ones they should be fine. There is a lot of road construction going on in southern spain, nice new dual carriageways to replace dangerous single carriageway roads and the older maps are not really aware of these new roads.
We always use our tomtom in spain, and its fine except where the new roads are, sometimes tomtom sees you driving through a field but 90% of the time its perfect.
Same as here, make sure there is no sign of it having being used in the car and always take it with you. If possible try and keep it out of sight, by not using the screen mount. I place ours down by the gearstick, it still works ok.

They're surprisingly good. I just bought one and it includes roads in just about every one horse pueblo I've visited recently. It obviously won't recognise the many tracks out in the campo but any hard surfaced road is recognised - good value as it either allows me more time to look at the scenery or prevents arguments when the wife tries navigating.
