iTunes "Authorisation" - how to reset
I have recently rebuilt(re-installed windows etc.) my PC and now I have to re-authorise purchased tracks. Fine in itself, I can re-authorise ok. However, it says I can only do this up to 5 times as it thinks my PC is a different one (even though it's the same PC I used to buy the tracks pre-rebuild). I've also recently rebuilt the laptop as well so had to go through the same with that so now Apple think I've got tracks on 4 computers whereas I've only got them on 2.
2nd related problem is that currently I can't play a track as it's saying the iTunes store is "temporarily" unavailable which means I can't play my song.
Is this all that crap DRM I've heard about? Can I remove the DRM so I don't get these above problems?

You can just de-authorise all computers, then re-authorise the ones you want.
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
You can play them without being connected to the iTunes store, but obviouslly your computer needs to be authorized in the first place.
Unless you get the new iTunes songs with no DRM.

So, in other words: yes, this is the DRM crap you've heard about.
iTunes Plus costs more but sells - at last! - music without DRM.
Personally I just buy CDs, which still offer the best quality and no stupid restrictions.

And I see in the news that all iTunes songs bought have details about the purchaser embedded INCLUDING these new so claimed DRM free tracks. So people who buy tunes form iTunes then that song gets 'out' into the internet, they can trace back to you.
That doesn't bother me too much anyway as
a) I tend to buy CDS, it's just the odd track I buy from iTunes rather than albums or b-sides etc.
b) I don't distribute my music.
However the privacy issue here is probably enough to stop me buying tracks from iTunes. Ironically this will have more people buying illegal tracks from torrents etc. as these won't have their details embedded in.

How funny would it be if tracks were released onto the net containing the names of senior people at Apple and the RIAA...
