Default Damage to my leg - is it normal?

Banged by leg just below the Knee on to my tow bar last Tuesday-it hurt at the time but ignored it.
Tuesday teatime it had wswelled up.
This is it after 6 days - The bruising has extended to my toes and around my lower leg.

Why?

Is this normal for lower leg bruising?

I had a huge lump around the area I hit my leg onto the towbar on Tuesday PM but its spread.

By today its like in the photots here:

Why has it spread so much????

My guess is you have broken a vein, get to the hospital. I had an injection in my arm once that severed the vein they injected into. My whole arm went black and it took 4 weeks for the swelling to subside.
In your leg you are far more likely to get a blood clot which is seriously bad news. (See DVT)
They gave me blood thiners until the arm had cleared itself up.

It's probably nothing to worry about as the bruising will disperse down the leg naturally anyway but do get it checked just in case.

Mr.Pissed Off, bruising has spread because the blood vessels have been ruptured, spreading blood under the skin. If you can walk ok-ish, I think it possibly ain't a fracture. To be on safe side, get it checked by your GP. Take some Iboprufen for inflammation etc. Looks like it hurt loads, man

Take care

I would get that checked as soon as you can. If the knock was nothing out of the ordinary and that is the result then obviously something isn't right. I could tell you a story about my cousin banging his leg in a similar fashion but I don't want to get you worked up over what could be nothing.

The blood from the bruise does 'migrate' downward due to gravity. I think that's normal, I've had that before.

Why there is so much from a relatively small knock is a bit of a mystery though.

mr_p1ssed_off

on saturday i got hit on the back of the hand with a remote control. it hurt more than it should of and went very bruiesd very quickly.i went to A&E and was told that the blood vessel had leaked inside. i was given a compression bandage to help dispearse the blood evenly.

i was also told to keep my arm raised for 48 hours.
as your leg is pointing south i think you should at least have it raised asap. if i were you i would get to the hospital and let them make a desicion

I did something similar to me foot whilst out in the boat sailing ,must have dropped 'something' on it dont remember any form of pain - anyway the bugger swelled up like a gooodun in minutes ( that was when I looked down - a warm sensation ) quite scary at the time.
Anyways it went down gradually, enough to get a shoe on after a couple of hours, and after a day decided i might go to the quack to see what about cos it also went virtually 'black' with blood spreadage.
He couldnt say why it had happened but gave it a name which ive forgotten - anyway the bursting of a water swelling and consequent blood spreading

Thanks for your replies
Sorry for not replying sooner - After a day in my local drinking establishment I was a tiny bit drunk and fell asleep.
In fact, I don't remember starting this thread, I was having a browse of the boards this morning and found it!

Anyways back to my leg...

The pics I've posted were taken yesterday after my shower and are indeed my own leg not the leg of mortuary resident.

I'm not one for going to the doctors or hospital as I think too many peeps do that and waste the limited resources of the NHS.
It is still quite sore, but mainly at the area of impact with the towbar, which still has a swollen lump but a lot less than it was.
I've been taking Ibuprofen daily since it happened which has help with the swelling as Tuesday night it had swollen so big that my trouser leg was a tight fit.
Walking to the pub yesterday was quite painful, but coming home full of booze it was fine!
I'm taking the rest of the week off work and going to keep it elevated on the sofa as much as possible.

If it turns nasty and I loose my leg I'll make sure I take more pictures!

If you don't bother the doctor at the outset it may get appreciably worse which would be much more bother to him later-and to yourself!

A mate of mine did something similar at work and tried to claim via one of those 'no win no fee' type companies.

He was advised he didn't have a leg to stand on

Yes, very funny thankyou!

Fair hair and a poor quality photo may give the impression of a shaved leg, but it is most definately NOT a hairless leg.

If it gets amputated and a wooden chair leg replaces it I may consider waxing it though.

Apologies to anyone who has lost a limb, this thread was meant to be serious and not to be mocking of anyone.
As for me, I don't mind if people take the p*ss, I'm up for a laugh.

I knew a lad who got kicked playing football .Delayed going to docs/hospital .
When he did go he found the calf muscle had died (a couple of days later). He had to have it operated on,to remove the dead flesh .
He did not come round from the operation (heart attack I believe during the op .)He was only about 42 ish with young family etc .

Now I am not saying it was the knock ,that killed him ,but the fact he did not go to Hospital soon enough maybe ,led to his death .

Not trying to scare you ,but hospitals are there to help and prevent serious problems ,so please use them rather than think you are wasting their time .

Hope it is better soon .

I am from Heywood down the road .Where this lad lived .

Again it was not said to scare him or anyone ,just to advise him or anyone to get it checked out sooner rather than later .
