Cool

Being a geek again............

Had been umming and Ahhing about upgrading my server at home from her PIII-1Ghz to something Beefier........

So Santa has just ordered for me:

Tyan Tiger MP Dual Athlon Motherboard
2x AMD Athon 1.4Ghz CPU (Non MP, Thunderbird core)
512MB ECC DDR2100 RAM (Would get more, but you seen the price jump recently?)
2x Taisol Copper Insert Heatsinks + More Powerful Fans

This takes her to the following spec:

Tyan Tiger MP Dual Athlon Motherboard
2x AMD Athon 1.4Ghz CPU (Non MP, Thunderbird core)
512MB ECC DDR2100 RAM
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
Adaptec 3950U2B and 29160 SCSI Controllers
3x 18.2 GB IBM SCSI160 Drives in 5 Bay Hot Swap
3x 5Gb Fujitsu 68pin SCSI-40 Drives
1x 4Gb Micropolis SCSI-20 Drive
Sony DDS-3 Backup Drive
Dlink DFE530TX LAN Card
512k/256k USB ADSL Link
Full size (Miniature fridge)Server Chassis
Dual Redundant 350Watt PSU
Dual 600VA UPS

Now for the question, what is this server used for that requires so much power?

Running as a UT CTF server, of course! (She canny take it captain, she hasnee got the upload speed!)

Private FTP Server
Private Http Server
General Server-type things.....

Hehe, silly me! Just thought that this might be of interest to some of the 'Tweakfreaks' amongst you!
I really shouldn't be allowed to keep hold of the money that I earn The other half tries her best to relieve me of it, but I am bigger than her

Cheers,

Nick

Hehe, I am thinking of plumbing another ADSL line in to get more upload. I just want the server to be completely understressed whilst people are gaming on her as if she is running as schweetly as possible, then only pants ADSL can mess things up

Mega, I have already sold the kit from the server:

Asus CUV4X-E Motherboard
Intel PIII-1Ghz CPU
Lapped FOP38 Heatsink/7200rpm Delta fan
2x256MB Crucial CAS2 PC133 RAM

Sold to a guy in my office for £250! Mid you, the kit is only 3 months old and he is 60 , so thinks that is the best thing since sliced bread!

Might have a dual PIII-1Ghz rig or parts on the go though......

Cheers,

Nick

Norm, I won't know until the weekend, but she had better! Wiped out close to £600 for the new bits!

Cheers,

Nick
