This is true - sub £200 then.

(don't mind a recorder but I've never used the one I have)

Denon DVD 1730 or 1930 if the budget will allow.

Can't go wrong just read the pro-reviews.

Wow - those Denon look like the Dog naughty bits - and the 1930 comes in at just under £200.

Thanks folks!

Samsung HD870! Not only is it highly rated, 1080p upscaling and plays Divx movies etc - but it can be picked up for under 50quid!

SAMSUNG's Digital World - Hi Def Conversion | DVD-HD870

Denon = lipsync, so be careful, this DOES affect some DVD/TV combinations.
Oppo has the ability to alter sound transfer delay.

So does the Denon 1930 as do the majority of higher spec Home Cinema amps if the DVD player does not.

Don't have much of a problem with mine, SkyHD is far worse as the inconsistancy makes setting the correct time delay difficult.

Thanks for all the advice folks - in the end I went for the Samsung - £50 as a standby until 'proper' HD is sorted (and cheap enough) seems the best thing. The quality is very good!

Oh, it's 1080i not p, but then my TV only does 1080i anyway, so that was fine (Samsung as well so I'm even saving on remotes)
