Hey, the guy claims to know nothing about cameras, why not go cheap and cheerful and see how you get on, for £15 you can't go wrong. Bought the misses one for hols as she doesn't like the SLR, she's as pleased as punch with it and it actually takes pretty reasonable pictures.

I'm no David Bailey or Anne Geddes...so my opinion probably doesn't count for much but....
I got a Samsung Digital camera about 18mths ago... Digimax A7 - 7 Megapixel..was £320 ( managed to get mine half price in Argos sale ) and they are now around £100..
A bit on the heavy side for a digital camera, but has a good battery life, user friendly ( that is a good thing for me! ) - does what it says on the package!
I'd definately go for another Samsung camera... but it depends on what you are looking to take photos of.. I'm just an occasional user - snapshots of nephew growing up etc...
Have a look in somewhere like Jessops - they are pretty helpful but on the pricey side

Forget the megapixel boasting unless you are going for blowups the size of your house. 4 to 5 Mp is way enough - as my missus' [v weak pix but sexy super slim] Casio 7MP proves.
