Guys,
As I know there's a wealth of experienced HL/CS bods on here, I've got a problem I can't find anything on the web about....
Half Life with patch 10111106 running on Win2K with an ELSA Gladiac 511 GeForce 2 MX400 64MB (phew ) (with drivers downloaded from ELSA's website a couple of weeks ago...)
When I select any Direct 3D mode, often I loose the screen (i.e. it goes completely blank). This is usually when switching screens e.g. when going from the console to the game, when coming out of a game etc. ....
Anybody got any ideas? I can run in software mode but it looks pants and is a waste of a perfecftly decent graphics card...
Help!!!
Matt

I've found the NVidia drivers better and more stable than the Elsa Drivers for my Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2 GTS 32 Mb
It took ages before the drivers didn't give me real problems with smoke but now running 12.90 and they have been by far the best for me.
Usual stuff like Via 4in1 for VIA amd boards and Motherboard BIOSs also should be up-to-date

I've tried that but it says that OpenGL is not supported....

I know but that means upgrading the Server @ work and all the other peeps in the office that play on it.....
dsmith
Interesting, I might give that a try....
Thanks guys, anyone else?

No I haven't had that problem..... yet
I would have to go with Deano on the things he has recommended. Get the new drivers install that and run in OpenGL. Much smoother than software or Direct3d modes (IMHO of course)
Sorry can't suggest anything else. Just download the patches for HL/CS and get everyone in the office to upgrade.

I have exactly the same card but on winME and had no problems. I used the Elsa drivers at first but then somebody told me about the Detonator drivers from the Nvida site and I use them with HL. Im playing HL TFC at the moment infact.

I've played using a Geforce 2 card and Geforce 3 and have no problems with either. Try downloading the lastest drivers from www.nvidia.com and if that fails upgrade HL/CS.

HI,
The nvidia drivers 21.83 are certified by Microsoft and should work well. Newer drivers 23.xx are not and sacrifice stability for performance sometimes. Check wich one you're using.
cheers,
Laurent
