I'm considering asking a friend to pick me one of these up when he goes to the states, can anyone tell me what (if any) are the differences between usa + uk versions?

I have one which I bought from the states. It works fine and has saved me on a couple of occasions. I've been told that the US version tracks different bands, so I'm not sure if I have a UK version made in the US or not

from looking at the specs on the web they all seem to have the ability to scan the same bands, but they may be configured differently between us + uk versions as the countries have differing priorities on radar etc. I can't see that they would make totally different versions, just make changes to config.

There is a programming manual somewhere out there, have come across it once, but I don't have a Valentine1..... yet

There's no UK version or US versions. If you want one for the UK you have to get the latest version. I think it's version 5. You need the latest version because it has Ku band, which is needed for mini gatsos. The earlier versions do not have KU band. The one you need has to have, Laser, X, K, Ku, and Ka bands.
